It hasn’t went up the way I expected but it hasn’t dropped either. But if it makes you feel better you can have all the internet points.
On the US average, gas dropped over 70 cents since 6/14/22. Dropping two cents every day on average.

People that have a certain belief system. In this case the Anti-EV group. Unfortunately there are many media sources on both sides that spin their reporting to attract a certain readership. It is what it is.
Hello; So, you are going to pigeonhole those who are not on board with the total agenda. Just like back when I posted legit concerns and questions during the covid discussions. Even after i had taken two doses of the vaccine I was labeled an anti-vaxxer.
So, any who question the EV agenda in any way are now the anti-EV group. Makes me think of a time when a fellow was trying to get me to take a three-legged dog off his hands. He went on and on about how good of a dog it was. Thing is I could see it was a three-legged dog and all the hype could not change that. Might have been the best three-legged dog ever for that matter. If I could have used a three-legged dog it would have been a fine one to have.

Saw a story of how to solve the EV truck issues. We could have an EV truck for most of our close by chores and an ICE sitting around for when we need a real truck to go a distance to haul/tow a load.

Let me restate that i am fine with you or anyone who can afford an EV and make it work for them. I am not against EV's themselves. I am against the mandates that unfairly punish the ICE and artificially promote the EV's. I already wrote to tell motor trend magazine I will not renew my subscription as they are mostly an EV rag anymore.

I hope you early adopters but buy and use these early generation EV's and help get all the bugs worked out. Someday the EV may fit my lifestyle which includes being cost effective and I will take a good look at one.

Gas prices are more related to market futures than anything else, even crude prices. The market is getting softer now because people are waking up to their senses and not spending as much money. Interest rates are going up as a measure against inflation, and it is helping. Housing and car prices down. Lumber prices down. Gas prices down. Next up, food prices. Inflation and spending spiraled out of control in 2020 and 2021. Time to reel it in. Buy only what you need, and prices will all fall!

BTW: People talk less when they have less to complain about!
Hello; Yes to these comments. I have been thru some of these inflation times before. Folks at first try to keep on with a lifestyle in what was a normal way for as long as they can. Depends on how deep their pockets may be as to how long it takes for them to get to a crunch point. Seems enough have gone past the crunch point and have had to cut back. So, fuel prices may be down some but not for a good reason.
I can be some pleased that my fuel costs are down of late. I am not pleased it likely is because of terrible policies which are hurting so many people. An analogy might be when people stop eating when they cannot afford food. Not necessarily a good thing. But seems some are counting the current situation as how they win internet points.

Talked to a guy who works at Kroger's today. Had his vacation last week. Said he did not do anything, just stayed home.

I can recall back a few decades ago when to buy something you had to put up to 20% (or more) down and the finance rates were high. Last vehicle I bought on time was back in the early 1980's. I used my own savings account as collateral but the best rate I could get was 6%. I could not have afforded to go the dealership rates at the time.
I slowly paid off that loan to the bank where I had savings and at the end of the loan term had my E-150 Ford van paid off and still had my savings.

this has to be one of your best paragraphs ever on this forum  :cwl: (ignoring first sentence of it which i left out). Please post more this kind of answer / story or what you did with your residence as I actually do find that interesting. Hope you are well :fistbump:

Back on topic: Gas (petrol) prices still suck here but so does our currency so that's why our fuel has hardly dropped in price. Pah!

Hello; I am well. I have been doing some work around the property. Guess i could update on that thread. Been hard to do much in the hot part of the day around my area. Not such high temps as much as high humidity. I try to start early to get some done before it gets so hot.
Right now a bit of rain is moving thru. I sit in front of a fan with my windows and doors open. I have run the central air three nights so far when it is too sticky to sleep. Guess growing up without AC and liking to be outside has accustomed me to the heat. I was also born in August if that matters.

Humidity is a killer for sure ☹ Sounds like you have been busy :like: I'd love to contribute to that thread but I break things when I DIY so it's cheaper and better to pay someone to do the work for me. Recently got curtain poles to stay up though. Go me !

Sounds like we need to continue this chat in the other thread before we both get a warning from the mods lol.

I notice our 95ron is down 2pence a litre locally, shame it is 70pence a litre higher than a year of so ago. Sigh

This is my problem with EV's. They are being FORCED upon us, even if the tech is not ready. UK you have 8 years.

"However, there may come a point in the future when the use of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) cars will be limited, or they will simply become uneconomic and impracticable to run through a mixture of high taxes, soaring fuel costs, scarcity of filling stations and ultra low emission zones. "

From everything I can find the zero emission return mileage is 65,000. Hardly zero emissions. Enjoy your fantasy.

Hello; This matches the Volvo study done with nearly identical Volvo vehicles. One being an ICE and the other an EV. If memory serves the EV must be driven around 68,000 miles before it breaks even with the ICE. After that the EV is ahead of the ICE. How far ahead depends on where the electricity comes from in a real-world situation and not the fantasied future world of "green " energy.
I also do not think the Volvo study gets into any battery replacements in terms of environmental impact. By that i think the impact of mining minerals and construction of a replacement battery pack ought to add miles to an older EV for it to break even with an ICE.
Old ICE vehicles can have need of major component replacement components so I cannot say for sure how this will work out. Back in my youth an ICE with 100K miles was near done. Now I know of ICE still running with over 300K on them. My neighbor bought a used pickup with over 300K last week. A friend has a VW Jetta approaching 500K on the diesel engine.

Nor does it consider recycling if memory serves. I have posted links to the study a few times and can do so again if wanted.

The problem with EVs is mining the materials for the batteries! The machines they use to mine those are not efficient in the slightest. Plus the battery disposal! What’s gonna happen when they can’t get all those taxes from gas sales?

I don’t think we will see full adoption of EVs in my lifetime! Another thing about those European country’s. They are not as vast as the US. Unless there’s new battery technology to allow long haul trucking! We will always have ICE vehicles! Plus I think the EPA just got cut on what regulations they can impose!

I think fusion tech is 100 to 150 years away.

What are trucking companies in the UK going to do in 2035 when they need to buy new ICE trucks?

The EPA has no authority in the UK. Too bad since they got their balls cut off IMO

Hello; Good points all. I do not know for sure but do think states have already or plan to impose a sort of road use tax on EV owners. One scheme I have read about is the EV owner gets a bill at the end of each year. Not sure how they will figure the tax/fee on an EV. On an ICE it is simple enough. The more fuel you use the more tax you pay. Maybe the EV will report the miles itself somehow???

Best i can know so far is the mining for minerals to use in EV batteries is similar to surface mining (strip mining) used to get at coal in my area. Lots of overburden moved out of the way to get at the ore. Then it depends on how concentrated the actual ore may be. Do they have to process many tons of ore to get a pound of specific minerals??

Back in my youth the mines pretty much left the tailings and overburden lay where it was when they got the coal. Called orphan mines when an operator just took what profits were had and left. The state and fed had to step in to reclaim those old mine scars. For most of my life i saw the mine scars which surrounded my home town. In the USA things are some better with regulations. Not sure the same will be true in China and some other places where the richest mineral deposits are known.

An irony in viewpoint is how there have been outcries about similar mining to get oil from tar sands or oil shales, but so far the mining of lithium and other needed minerals do not get the same treatment. A similar thing happened the other day. A TV voice was touting how massively increasing bison/buffalo herds will be a boon to the environment. Funny thing is cattle are becoming bad guys for the environment. The Dutch farmers recently have to reduce methane from cows by half. Things is bison are grass eaters as well. Will he herds of wildebeests, zebra, caribou and the like be culled same as domestic cattle??

Also I don’t think the military will ever go EV! if a round or IED ruptures a battery cell that’s a fire that is extremely hard, if not impossible to put out!

Hello; Weeks ago, I watched the BACK TO THE FUTURE movies with Doc Brown's improved Delorian which used banana peels in its fusion generator. Thing that struck me was we are already beyond the date currently all the future predictions in the movies were made. Those films were made in the 1980's. They did get inflation close to correct. $50 for a Pepsi.
