here in CA, we dont have many options above 91 octane for everyday fill-ups, as you know. costco is what i will fill up for my first tank as my low-fuel light just came on! at least costco is "top tier". i dont know about cleaners, dont plan to use any for now.

No joke. I know a guy who puts 4 oz. of Marvel Mystery Oil per 10 gallons in his gas tank.

Run it to redline every once in a while and you shouldn't need to add anything as long as you're on 91 or higher.

You want to put something in, use Swepco 503 every once in a while. Safe, effective.

i used one bottle of Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner in my car and put 6 gallons of gas in it (minimum the bottle states) and for that weekend i wasnt nice to the car. i let it warm up but i drove it to redline often.

did it help? *shrug* did it hurt? probably not. was it cheap to do if it did work? sure.

I never knew Costco was considered Top Tier. I need to review that list and see what else is considered Top Tier. Just checked, I like how Valero is listed as Top Tier but Kroger isn't which is interesting considering Shell honors Kroger rewards.

I don't put anything but fuel in my vehicles unless they're going to sit for longer than about 4 weeks. At which point I like to use Seafoam at 1oz per gallon as a fuel stabilizer.

Don't do this. It will take your temperature abive 220F which is when carbon can start to bind to valves. You'd have to drive the thing on a track for many laps to get to the temperature that carbon loses its binding characteristic.

You're recommending to not run a fully forged engine to redline to clear it out every once in a while?

I've seen engines that never go above 3k have more carbon build up than I'd have thought possible. Revving your engine out isn't going to hurt anything (assuming it's already nice and warm) and and getting it nice and "cleared out" is a great way to keep it running well.

Either way, build up on the valves will have to be stupid excessive to cause performance issues.

Reminded me of this. This was after Shelby give him one of his cars. One of Bill's funniest.

Those engines aren't coyotes. Also, Engineering Explained has a compelling video about this.
