First DIY project..for pretty much anything so hoping I could get some tips/corrections of my current steps I've written out so I'm prepared

2015 mustang gt base

1) Lift up car, 4 jack stands, take wheels off. Seen videos of where to place it. Btw, does it need to be a sunny/dry day if I'm in the garage with door open, or can it be raining. Will humidity ruin the painting?

2) Sandpaper - do I need this, and do I do it before/after the provided brake cleaner? If it's about rust/dirt, I'm "only" at 25000 kms for a 2015 and don't drive in rain/snow.

3) Safety stuff - do I need googles, masks, gloves? Any specific ratings/types for this job?

4) Brake cleaner

5) Masking off - any tips with this? Just using the recommended painters tape

6) Get better paintbrushes - follow instructions for painting. 3-4 coats?

7) Let dry before putting wheels back on.

1) Humidity shouldn't ruin it, but I did mine inside because they were new calipers

2) I didn't use sandpaper at all but if they're really dirty I would

3) didn't use anything

5) I'd put a plastic bag around the rotor as well as taping off area

6) you can do as many as you are able to with the can, just make sure to do at least 2 per caliper

7.5) you're not supposed to drive for 24 hours or something like that

Take your time and make sure the calipers are clean. Use the brake cleaner, sandpaper, towels, brush, whatever it takes to get any crud off them. Mine were pretty clean but I used a small brush to help. Once that dries tape everything off that is touching parts you are going to paint. I put 4 coats on mine, but I don't think the 4th coat really did much. Put your wheels back on and let dry per directions.

-No sand paper.

-Get some quality brushes at a hobby store. The one that comes with the kit isn't great and you need a couple.

-The first coat won't look great, don't over work it. Second coat will look good, and third will look awesome.

-Stir the epoxy often and keep it covered in between coats.

I used a green 3M ScothBrite pad on mine. Doesn't leave any scratches but enough abrasion to scuff it down for good adhesion. I would definitely do on a dry day if possible. I have never been a fan of painting in high humidity, although I don't think it is near as crucial for a caliper vs other items.

I bought some foam paint brushes as well as some regular thinner ones. I figure foam will be good just in case any bristles would come off. Think that's ok? I'm slightly worried the foam will absorb too much.

I would not use the foam. The paint is epoxy and extremely thick. Just use good brushes.
The foam tends to drag the epoxy and not deliver a smooth coat.

My friend told me to get dollar store paint brushes since we're throwing them away after being used on epoxy paint. Will those be ok...

https://imgur.com/gallery/II5gLkU - these are my calipers. Won't need sandpaper right?

No, just clean them really well. Scotch bright might not be a bad idea as someone else mentioned.

Hey! I painted my Brakes with G2 Caliper paint as well. I would highly recommend getting the spray bottle attachment and spray painting the G2 paint on, rather than using a brush.

I would also recommend taking the calipers off the car entirely. I completely removed mine, painted them, let them dry, touch up paint, dry again, then re installed. Whole process took about 3 days.

Be very careful, I had great results, but I used the spray attachment (sold on the G2 site, and completely removed the calipers from my car)

I had a buddy try to do the same on his GT, didn't take the calipers off and used a brush, they look pretty rough. From distance its no issue, but up close they look sloppy and like they have too many layers of paint.
