I went with full hood, front bumper, fenders and hood. That cost $1900 with prep. Then had the rest of the car coated in opti coat pro for another $600. The combination is extemely effective. Post 1300 mile trip I detailed the car and not a single scratch or swirl. Very impressed.

Make sure your installer wraps around entire panels and doesn't stop short at seams.
I plan on doing the same...except I understand that CQuartz may be a little better than Opticoat...anyone have comments and experience with both?

He did not pull it off on his own lol. Not the first story I heard of paint being pulled off either.
I've heard it too. Rare but it happens.

And yes, technique, but 75% the paint under it. You never know until you go take the film off either.

It depend on what day the car was sprayed, temp, humidity, and so many other factors with the paint that one car may not act like another of the same exact car and color even. Any weak spot in the paint and you have some VERY strong adhesive you're tugging on and it will tear the weak paint spot right off the car. And there's no way to even know until it happens.

It's an inherent risk of the process; just like any detailing process. That's why I dont wrap my cars. I'd rather take the risk of a few tiny paint chips I can fill in with Dr Colorchip on the front bumper than tearing off clearcoat in some pain in the butt place and having to get an expensive portion of the car repainted

I also personally don't buy into the whole "coating" fad either but that's another story. My theory is ones you can do yourself (Opti glasscoat, 22ple, etc), sure risk $100 no huge loss if it doesnt do much. It's wipe on wipe off (or let set) like a wax and very easy to do. But $500, 750, 1000+ is insane IMO from something no one can truly prove does anything really more than a good sealant/wax.

As even a pro detailer wrote in the other section today on this topic, its all about how you treat the car. Nothing is a force field of protection. My GT is 1 year old 2 days ago with 4000 miles and not a scratch on it (and it's black). It's all about how you treat it- 2 bucket wash, always seal and wax, polish when needed. Use the wrong tools or method and a micron thick coating wont help; nor rock chips or dents etc.

I'd like to see macroy post the details. He showed the wrap going on his hood in another thread and it looked great after, but no details.
I went with PremiumShield. Actually, I picked the installer who happened to use/recommend PremiumShield. And this was a referral from a few co-workers. I read about Xpel, suntek, 3M, etc. Ironically, PremiumShield wasn't mentioned much.

Xpel seemed the sh*t all over the board. But in the end, I'm dealing with the dude that is putting it on, not the manufacture. So the personal references were certainly a huge factor in my decision.

I did get quotes from other places. For those in the DC/Baltimore area, I can provide more details of the others if interested (not sure if dropping names on here = advertising). There are two XPEL dealers that have been mentioned on Lambo/Audi/Porsche boards (one in Ellicott City, and another in Columbia). In the end, I don't think I could have gone wrong with any of them.

I had the full front wrap done - essentially the side mirrors, and everything in front of that (hood/bumper/fender). He also threw in protection for the headlights. No templates, basically just rolls of this stuff.

Realistically speaking, the car hasn't left the garage since it was done (lots of rain). So I haven't had the chance to really look at it under the sun. But my installer was great. He also makes house calls, so that was nice. I worked from home while it was getting done. He also said he'd come by and fix anything if ever necessary.

This is my first experience with paint protection wrap - so certainly can't provide any comparisons.

Not sure if I covered everything. But feel free to ask. I can also provide updates as the weather clears.

I had my full hood, facia, bikini on fenders, headlights, rockers, thresholds and impact behind rear wheels.

If you get right up on the paint you can see it, but from 2 feet it is invisible.

XPEL has the templates, and now has templates to do around the stripes.

Worth the $1500 it cost me.
Where in NJ?

Could you maybe post a pic or two? I have yet to seen a clear wrapped car and am concerned about the distortion and yellowing it may cause after time.
Xpel has a 10 year warranty against yellowing and peeling. I just got back from a longer trip so the car is filthy. I should be able to post pictures later this week.

Any reason to avoid the stripes? I assume they would retain more of a matte look compared to the paint even with the protective film..

I was quoted 5800 for full wrap in xpel in houston... Is that the going rate? That seems very high.

If it's any help to you, I was quoted $6500 for a full XPEL wrap from an authorized and reputable dealer, $5000 from a non-authorized(not sure if warranty applies to this install). This was in the Bay Area, CA.

People getting quotes for $2-3k for a full wrap either live in the boonies where costs of living are cheap, or aren't reputable/authorized installers, or both. You don't want to skimp on quality of install on this. It's not like getting a $99 tint job, just to darken your windows and do almost nothing for heat reduction like I see a lot of people do.

Or, for living in the Bay Area you're getting ripped off on absolutely everything you have to open up your wallet for down there? It's all perspective...

I understand, I grew up there. Quality of life has taken a hit down there because of the density and congestion.

we just did one and bulked the car and did it in a day we do a lot of high end car this way because you really what to wrap the corners and edges but please use suntek or xpel the suntek is more natural and is more forgiving if you make a mistake and have to redo it.
