Front parking sensors

When I picked my car up I was hoping to have front sensors fitted, but the dealer said the system they used was no good and a replacement was on the way. Obviously I heard nada about that. Anyone had an aftermarket solution fitted? The front is impossible to judge and I usually end up meters away from the curb (which is handy given the car is hardly short!).

I have the dealer fitted Ford front parking sensors fitted as per the Mustang pricelist.

They are not great but I'm glad I have got them.

The sensors activate with ignition for a few minutes and then turn off by themselves and also activate under some circumstances after selecting some combination of park & reverse (I have automatic transmission).

The sensors are too sensitive when activated and will pick up a slow beeping off the curb or off the road and when driving past parked cars. After about 1 minute of driving they deactivate by themselves but I usually deactivate using the button before I pull away.

They are OK for swinging out of a tight space when parallel parked as the tone gets stronger as you approach the object.

There are 4 sensors fitted on the front bumper middle and corners.

I would struggle to install them myself as the front bumper must surely have been removed and I can't see the wires going to the sensors and there are fuse taps to the engine compartment fusebox and the passenger compartment fusebox and a button on the dashboard so they have brought a wire through the bulkhead firewall.

The install involved 2 fuse taps
Engine Compartment Fuse 44, 15 Amp Micro, Vehicle Power 4
Passenger Compartment Fuse 36, 15 Amp Micro 2, Auxiliary body module
There is also a splice into the wiring harness

If they come with insturctions to wire them in you can probably get some Ebay jobbies and hide them in the grille or under the splitter... Or in the air ducts behind the fogs...

They'll be hard to use generally because of the length of bonnet and lack of positions to put them in. But will help when you're parking front on etc.

There are also aftermarket proximity beepers that go under the grille and point to the kerb, as these ones are set too high for that.
What I'd really like - but can't find anywhere that works with sync 3 - is a forward facing video camera and then I can make my own visual judgements about obstacles

Thanks all; in the Aus thread there is a great fitment from a mobile chap; I've asked a local company that does the same system to quote. I'll let you know how I get on.

Got the Ford part too. Great colour match and works fine. Got them fitted before I picked up the car... too much hassle to DIY

I have a set to install on mine weekend after next and I'm certain they aren't pre marked on the inside like most rear bumpers are.

I will take plenty of pictures of the install and let you all know how they perform.
They will pick up on the CAN system so should automatically come on when I go from reverse to 1st, and switch off once I exceed about 7mph (That's how I have interpreted it)

I would advise caution with the front sensors.

I really wanted them for a while (but never got around to it).... and saw my first other Mustang with them fitted at a meeting last week.

They looked Fugly (sorry to those who have them).... and these were colour matched Ford variants too.

Front facing cam. or much better hidden sensors would be my way forward after seeing what they actually look like on a car.

I like my Ford ones - a bit too sensitive, but better safe than sorry. Not ugly at all, IMO. Pic attached.

@Fatbob V2 I don't have any pics to hand but the pics by @Maoilearca are fine, My Mustang is Black.

@Maoilearca interesting you find them too sensitive too. I was investigating of they could be adjusted.

@Fatbob V2 are you installing the Xvision sensors, I only have a user guide do you have a installation instructions?

Thanks for the image, that will be a great help.

The sensors I'm fitting are Laserline ones. They will mount from behind and should look almost the same as the rears. Will get the paint mixed in an aerosol and take my time painting them up.

Let us know how it goes pal !

Remember with Aerosol's jus light coats, if the first coat don't look like it's covered much that's fine, build the layers up.

also, ask (halfords?) them to mix it up with laquer, or get a gloss hard coat and spray 2-3 coats of that until it matches your paint
