Apologies in advance if there is a thread elsewhere, I looked all around and didn't find quite what I was looking for so I figure I'll ask here.

I was lucky enough to not have the dealer drill holes into the front of my car , so I'd like to keep it that way. I've looked around and there are really only 2 license plate brackets for our cars Craig's custom bracket and the Sto-N-Sho. I don't really want to go the craig's bracket approach because I'm worried that once that glue fails the plate will fall off, or if it doesn't fail (such as someone tapping the plate with something) it might damage the frontend. I ordered the Sto-N-Sho, but now I'm finding out that my v6 has the air dam that requires "modification" (read pull out spot welds and put the bracket there :frusty:). I'm concerned about modifying the air dam since its not really an easily reversible mod. I think the reason the Sto-N-Sho has such a large mounting plate (which requires the modification) is because its supposed to be easily removeable-- but I'd be just as happy if "removal" meant pull those 2 screws from the front out and take the bracket off. Ideally the bracket would just go in those two factory holes (that the sto-n-sho goes in) without requiring air dam modifications.

TLDR; Anyone seen any front license plate brackets that you could bolt on without modification? If not, any tips for making one?

The adhesive that is on Craig's bracket is quite strong. It is 3-M automotive tape, which is used to attach parts to painted exterior surfaces.

I've had it on my car for awhile, having traveled at highway speeds with no issues. You can use adhesion promoter, which is what I did, and it will absolutely anchor it.

this is really preliminary, but this is what i'd like to do. have a mount that bolts to the bottom of the front crash bar with a plate that comes down into the lower grille opening. have a couple nuts welded to that plate that goes into the lower grille opening. use some long 1/2" diameter socket head cap screws as "mounting studs". have the plate that the license plate mounts to with a couple set screw shaft collars welded to it that will attach to the heads of the socket head cap screws.

this way it is 100% mechanically fastened (no glue/tape), it is mounted in the factory location (not that goofy "in front of the splitter" location), doesnt require drilling the bumper cover, and can be removed easily with two allen wrenches.

Not trying to be ghetto but I got pulled over for not having the front plate so I quickly grabbed two zip ties and weather strip and tied it up to the lower grille weather strip prevents scratching ....all this is temporary

I was faced with the same situation with my Ecoboost of having to deform the air deflector with the Sto and Sho. I sent it back and went with the Craigs bracket. I questioned the strength of the tape also. So far so good, no problems at all.

wiSC: That seems like a pretty solid plan, still sounds like some drilling required, but at least not on a part you see :)

I'm less concerned with the glue not holding, and more concerned with it holding too well :) If the plate were to get bumped into I'm worried that it'd take paint (or part of the bumper) with it :/

I mounted it in the same location as the Sto and Sho, not on the bumber. More of a chance in grounding out, but it would just be the plastic engine shield.

LOL you guys and your fear of modern adhesives. Craigs all the way everyday. Tested to 130MPH in below freezing temps, installed in 40F weather. FYI if your that paranoid you can mechanically attach the bracket with the two holes he provides. Stow and Show will cost you a lot of damage if you ever curb the car. My selling dealer put 10 in stock after they saw mine. Happy customers and 100% legal.

I put my sto n sho on mine off to the side, didn't have to remove the air deflector. Plus I like that asymmetrical look.

When its off to the side like that, does it fit nicely with the air dam?

Initially I thought I had to have a Craig's bracket or make one of my own similar to it for a lot less than $53, so I'd have it ready if/when I got a fix it ticket. When I realized the plate would only be on long enough to get it signed of, I decided to just use low adhesion double sticky tape (plate directly to painted bumper) and remove it when I was away from the sign off location.
