I took mine out the other day and it seems the led and plastic holder are one piece. It doesn't seem like you can just replace the led so I'm not sure if there is replacements out there.

It's an LED unit from the factory. You won't be able to replace it without opening up the factory unit and modifying the factory components. (Soldering on new LEDs etc...)

It's not worth the hassle IMO

Hi guys - new to the forum from Frankfurt, Germany

I also looked into the license plate bulb issue but not the replace it but to tag into the wiring as a power source for hooking up my US rear side marker lights as the EU spec comes without the rear side marker lights (only amber reflectors). Any ideas in that regard?
As a second option I contemplated hooking them up to the rear running lights but their wiring is not transparent with regard to which wire I'll need to tag into.

Hey brother, how do you take out the license plate lights? Do you have to remove the trunk interior plastic panel?

It's a similar light as in your armrest box.
It's an LED and reflector built as a unit.
You would probably have to fabricate your own to get what you are looking for.
