Hi all,

Pretty sure i just shattered my clutch or something similar. I was doing some late night driving and figured I'd try the launch control and acceleration timer. Welp it spun the wheels a bit and then just stopped now it wont move and clatters if I try to.

Is this common? The car has steeda suspension ans 285 tires in the back. I also just yesterday installed the lund tune . (which means ford probably won't cover this) I'm at best making 30 more hp. I'm really kind of surprised.

Any thoughts ?

I would suggest taking a look real close at the axle shafts, especially the left side shaft which is the one that usually snaps. Did the car wheep hop when spinning?

It did wheel hop. But I can get the car to start moving before it gives out also when I kill the engine i can hear the clutch still spinning (clattering) against the flywheel

I got out while it was running and thr noise 100% is coming from the trans engine area. Wonder hoe much this is going to cost.

Well it looks like you have the suspension all set-up, now its time to start on the drive train. It could just be the slave cylinder, but I think its time to invest in a new clutch/flywheel set-up. Beafcake racing has some good deals going on right now.

If I have to pay to replace the clutch that's the plan. But its at almost stock power level. I can't believe ford didn't engineer it to be able to take an extra 30 HP. My clutch did feel a little funny the last few days. Maybe im just lucky . while ford has it in going to see if they can figure out why it wont shift into 2nd when im on it hard sometimes

Usually people experience gear lockout at high rpms going into 3rd which is what I used to get on the stock clutch. I don't want to assume anything. Let us know what the dealer finds out when they take it apart. I do know from experience that the stock clutch doesn't like high rpm shifting especially when its starts getting hot. That's why I got rid of it and went aftermarket.

Out of curiosity is the stock flywheel dual mass? I know they are in my VW. They think the flywheel broke, and thats the only way i could see it failing. that was as of 10 AM they were still working on it.

Yes the 18+ has a dual mass flywheel.

A tune doesn't just "add 30hp" it also removes a lot of TQ limits and other nannies that the OEM tune has to keep parts lasting to the warranty limit. No I am not saying the tune broke it, just stating there is more that goes into the tune than raising HP.

I get that but there are people running superchargers on the stock clutch and Roush whipple and edlebrock are even warranting them.

Edit: didnt mean this to seem sarcastic. My main point is that the clutch/car should be able to take a few launches even tuned.

The dealer called yesterday and said they are replacing the flywheel and the slave cylinder. I asked if warranty was taking care of it and i was told yes. I wont completely trust it until the car is back in my hands. My guess is something looked defective, or with reduced staff they just went ahead and fixed it.
