Hey guys.

I have a 2015 GT. It's going to be going under the knife for either a twin or singe turbo install. I want to be able to rev to 7k-8k so I want to change valve springs. I'll also be changing the OPG while I'm at it, and was wondering if I want to go the extra mile and go forged rods and pistons too. I'm not sleeving my block which is why I said "normal" block in the thread title. I don't think I need to at 600-700hp but correct me if I'm wrong.

700hp on high boost would be my goal. 600-650 on low boost would be fine. I'll be daily driving this car (20 miles a day on most days). The more hp it makes, the better but I can't see my self driving it hard at those power levels. There aren't enough open roads around to put down 700+ and I won't be hitting the track with it at all.

So, do I go forged bottom end or stick to stock? Do I even need valve springs for occasional (once or twice a couple of days) letting it rev out?

Thanks!

I don't know about rev'ing to 8K, but you don't need to do engine work (other than maybe OPG if you want) for 700 RWHP.

search is your friend, there's threads all over the site about the durability of these motors. you don't need anything at all to run 650-7 which would be your limit on pump anyway. as for the opg some say yes some say no, youll find varying opinions all over the choice is yours.

Thanks for your reply. You're right.
I've been reading this forum for a few months now. I see a lot of the Whipple guys hit 700 on the stock engine. But like I said, I want to be able to go beyond 700hp if I ever want to. I'm afraid after 700 I'll need to sleeve the block though. Ethanol is hard to get here so I want to stick to 93 Octane.

there are people in the 8's on stock internals. I believe beefcakes blew up right around 900. lethal is also pushing around the same amount on a stock motor just waiting for the boom as far as I know

My personal recommendation from what I've read is to do OPG, you might not need to do valve springs. I haven't seen anyone have issues revving on stock springs. However putting a better spring in there I wouldn't think could hurt anything. As for doing forged internals, that really just depends on how long you plan on having the car for. If you plan to sell it before you hit 80k miles, then you shouldn't really worry about it, but if you're looking at pushing 100k plus on a boosted motor you probably should.

In the "maybe" column with opg, consensus seems to be that it can be helpful to do the harmonic balancer also.

If you intend being north of 700, do the rods/pistons and add appropriate tool steel wrist pins (.200 wall or so).

My main concern is fuel. If I was on e85 I wouldn't even think about going forged. However, there's only one station near me that carries at and I can't risk always counting on one station to fuel up a daily driver. What does everyone else do about this?

Thanks a lot for your help guys!

I plan on building for e85 at some point and trying to get a flex fuel tune done so i can use the e85 and up the boost when i want to make the trek. i think just about everyone switches to race fuel or e85 to push passed 700.

imo if your gonna go north of 750 and your planning engine upgrades i wouldnt just think about rods and pistons id look into a sleeved block....weak point isnt the rods and shouldnt be your pistons if your tune is right...weak point is the block. im sure there are a few making big power on stock blocks and even internals but they are just a disaster waiting to happen imo....opg's, crank gear on stock setup is what i have and i am right at 700 wheel....i feel confident mine will hold together....im not planning to push it farther as im happy with the 9.7's i run with it in the 1/4...if i were to take it to the next level id def look into an rgr, mps, bes type sleeved shortblock .
