Sorry for the lack of updates on this, but I was hoping to have something noteworthy to report by now.

In a nutshell, it doesn’t look like the reg date can be amended with the DVLA. I’ve had my dealer looking into this, and also Karen Batt who kindly got in touch with me through the forum when she saw this thread. She has told me the DVLA told her it can’t be changed. My dealer told me last week he still thinks it can, but he is now not returning my calls so I can only assume he isn’t making any progress either.

Last night I kind of lost patience with the situation and emailed Andy Barratt with a full account of what’s happened to date. He responded straight away, and it has been referred to the Trust Ford customer care team. I’m not really sure what will happen from here, but just wanted to post a quick update for anyone wondering what on earth has been going on!

If I have any further news, I will update the thread.

It is reassuring that Karen got in touch and Andy responded quickly, because it appears to me that the salesman knows he's not going to have any luck with the DVLA and is keeping his head down. I think its all down to what the dealer is prepared to do by way of recompense and what you're prepared to accept. I hope they come up with something you're happy with.

Beggars belief that as motor traders they weren't being ultra-careful with registrations at the time when tax rules were changing. I'm talking my way round to thinking about underhandedness now but they'd need to be imbeciles to think they'd get away with it, what with us pesky kids ;)

Think you're the chap who left the car sitting for months under a tree waiting for 1st April? How ironic:doh: Can't see how anyone can change the registration date now you've driven it for a month plus.
This was me actually. You lot rinsed me so I kept quiet about it after that. I picked it up April 1st and have put 3,500 miles on its since so there were no ill effects from the wait. Apart from compulsive mods buying in the interim. I've just checked my V5, phew. It shows April 1st. That indeed would have been a tragedy.

Well, at least yours was rgistered as you'd asked it.

So if ford can't change the date, which was to be expected. What are they going to do? I mean you've got ÂŁ880 that's been with the dealers for a month or two that they promised was for that, yeah it maybe an honest mistake and what not, but IIRC you're still out of pocket!

How do they calculate any depreciation tho? That's the main reason most waited unit 01-04

Settle that bit first, then the rest... He's currently officially out of pocket money and hasn't been refunded, the rest comes after (Also once they refund they're officially admitting they cocked up)

I'm no lawyer but I wouldn't recommend accepting one penny of part-payment in case they try to play that as acceptance of the pre-April registration. I'd want a fully agreed settlement in writing. I am all talk, but that would be the way I'd try to work it!

Yes be wary of any 'full and final settlements'

As long as it's a refund for what he's paid, then he can begin on nailing compensation

Hi everyone,

At last I have some better news to report. My dealer has just called and they have agreed to supply me with a replacement car. I need to go in a double check the spec is correct, but assuming all is well it will be delivered in September.

They have also agreed that I can keep using the current car until then, and they will just swap my exhuast over to the new car when it arrives.

All in all, I'm happy with this result. Thanks for all the helpful comments to date.

That sounds like a fair deal to me, good work. Guess they will be taking quite a hit (as they should) when you hand it back & they have to sell it on.

Actually nice for you to have a few months to get used to it, to then jump in a shiny new one!

That sounds good, might even come sooner than september. If they hold your car on the price you paid on a swap, then all is well.

Sounds a good deal for both parties :ninja:
