So I have a 2016 Mustang base GT and I just did a sync 3 conversion from the 4” screen to the 8”, and I was wondering if anyone out there has done the conversion and knows a way to connect it to Ford Pass. I read an article that says I need a connection modem, if that‘s the only way then does anyone know how to get one because I can’t find it anywhere online?
Thanks.

It can be retrofitted, but it's expensive, and I'm not sure you'd get all the features anyway. A friend of mine, who's good at these things, managed to retrofit it into his pre-2019 Mondeo. I seem to remember, though, that there was something he couldn't get to work. I think the remote start, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, it's not worth it. Too much hassle and expense for too little gain.

Maybe in Europe but not here in the states. The modem is tied to a VIN. 2019 Bullitt owners tried and found it could not be done.

The FordPass connects through bluetooth. You only need a modem for remote start, and to lock/unlock doors.
My 2016 F150 uses FordPass. It has no modem, or NAV.

If FordPass really worth it without the remote options? Do you get gas level and tire info?

It is tied to a VIN, but I seem to remember that he found a workaround. Either he was able to reprogram it for his VIN, or he made it work irrespective of the VIN programming... Or maybe that's precisely why some of the functionality was still missing in the end. I wasn't too interested in the subject matter at the time, so I didn't retain all the details. But now you've made me curious; I will ask him. :)

Technically, yes, but it's very limited. No remote control of any kind, no odometer/gas/tire/oil information, nothing that relies on communicating with the car via the internet (or via bluetooth for that matter).
You can use it on the Sync display (which is pretty useless; it lets you find the nearest Ford dealership and that's about it). I think that finding an address on the phone and having it automatically sent to the onboard navigation the next time you started the car was also working. And it gave you traffic info on the onboard navigation without requiring a subscription. The latter used to work before the introduction of the FordPass Connect modem. With the modem it became a paid subscription feature. Even after the introduction of the modem it continued to work free of charge in cars that didn't have the modem to begin with, but I'm not sure whether it would work today with a retrofitted Sync system.

Edit: I misread your question. You were asking if it's worth it. I thought you were asking whether it works.
No, it isn't worth it.

I did. He says he didn't find the TCU to be locked to the VIN. He had good results both with a new TCU and with a previously owned one. All that really matters is to use a TCU that's made for the same market (i.e. no US module in a Euro car, or vice versa).
The only glitch is that FordPass doesn't display the remote start button in a pre-2019 vehicle. Everything else works fine.
So you were right, it does seem that US and Euro vehicles are set up differently. It may be that the VIN lock only applies to US VINs.

It gives you mileage, gas level, and oil life
You can also see your service history, warranty coverages, and reward points without going through the Ford owners site. And any recalls or service bulletins that may come up.
