My first car was a Maverick. Great little car, and it had so many mechanical similarities to the Mustang. I had a '74 with the big bumpers. Swapped in a V8 and thought I was fast, lol. It was fun but my '15 would torch that car.

As if the Maverick wasn't enough of a red-headed stepchild among gearheads back then, there was an ugly cousin under the Mercury badge called the Comet. Neither got much respect, mainly I think because they came out in the 70s when even V8s were anemic, and most of these cars had sixes. They weren't particularly cool looking in their day, but now a small bumper 2 door looks sweet to me.

Ah, yes, the Vomit, as my Dad called them when I was a kid.

I'd still love to have an early Maverick or Comet with a stout 351W.

No doubt the new Maverick will be some lamewad SUV....

Well, it’s just like Mitsubishi now using the “Eclipse” branding on their newest crossover SUV. Seems like that is the trend now, because “Mach1” was going to be used on another Ford product other than the Mustang and not sure what happened with that... anyone?
