Man, I'm going crazy over here!! I plan on doing mods as soon as I get the car, but the things I DO want from the factory are part of either the premium or performance packs. I ONLY want the rear diffuser and 8" display from the premium package, and I ONLY want the gauge pack and 3.73s from the performance package. Between the base model and fully loaded price (which it's looking like I have to get in order to get the features I want) it's not worth the cash. I REALLY hope Ford will let us pick and choose individual features.

Go premium is what I'd recommend.

It's going to be cheaper for you to get your own gauges and 3.73s than it would be to replace that rear diffuser and get that factory 8 inch display.

We're a lot alike though, that's exactly how I feel. Don't forget the toggles from the premium, lots of people like that and that wouldn't be cheap to add in.

In the end I think the pieces I like from the performance package can reasonable be added on later. Parts of the premium that I'd want to have seem to be hard/expensive to add on later.

Its all about money and logistics. In today's world no one is going to be that specialized, it costs way too much and makes it really hard to control commodities. If you want a high level of customization, you have to buy the base and customize yourself.

The Performance Pack adds roughly $35/mo (assuming 72mo at %4)

If you can't afford that you probably don't need a new Mustang.

It´s also about the American way of buying cars. Most people buy from dealer stock, so to keep inventory manageble the manufacturers combine options into packages.

In Europe dealers have no stock and 99% of all cars that people buy are ordered to customer spec from the factory. At least with the cars that are produced in Europe, which is the vast majority of what is sold here. Most manufacturers over here offer every single option seperately and the luxury brands have option lists the size of a telephone book.

We also consider it normal to wait 3 to 8 months for a new car to be delivered after signing the order.

That being said Mustang buyers over here will probably have to deal with even more limited option choice than US buyers because of logistics. We will most likely only get Premium PP cars with EB or V8 and I assume the export cars will be built in batches and kept in stock in the UK. So maybe 2 levels of optional equipment and that´s it. Maybe not even every color either.

About the same time that we will wait over here on this Mustang after ordering it. :(

I'd imagine all the packages look affordable when you break it down to a monthly basis format. 20 bucks here, 45 bucks there... So essentially if you can't afford a fully loaded vert you have no business buying a mustang?

Everyone has limits, what's yours? Adding 35 a month goes over that limit? Hrm, you probably don't need to buy anything then...

I'm not financing the vehicle, I'm cashing out for it, so 4-6k+ extra is a big deal all at one time..

Nothing has changes since you bought your Mustang in 2004 bro.. these are packages, that represent a level of trim.

lol I actually bought my '04 a few years ago in 2011. I was just getting into cars and it was my favorite body style at the time. Now i'm in a position to buy the '15 and I'm pulling the trigger. Has there ever been any wiggle room with picking and choosing certain parts/features?

72 months?! Sheesh you'll be paying at least $5k more for the car because of interest and principal. Most I'll do time wise is 60 months, but I'll try to get 48 months at a decent rate.

72 months is great when you can get your loans under 2%. With good credit it's not hard at all to get that kind of rate. I pay 1.79% on my Shelby and that is through one of the dealers banks and not a credit union.

For instance here is a $40k Loan at 1.99%.

60 Months:
$700 Payment
$2,056 paid in interest

72 Months:
$589 Payment
$2,468 paid in interest

It's worth the $412 to have the lower monthly payment and you can always pay it off early.

The real problem is the rising price of cars in relation to average salaries, forcing people into longer term loans.

This is exactly my strategy. I got 1.65% for 72 months on my 2012. The longer duration keeps payments lower and manageable in case times get rough. Otherwise I can pay it off early. Just allows extra flexibility. But yes, with less favorable percentages, a 72 month note can be pretty brutal...

This is true. Well, if you can lock in that rate, then I would do it too! I usually just refinance for lower payments after the first year or two then make extra payments when I can. I'm in a much better predicament financially at this age than I was before in my life, so a payment around $700 isn't an issue, thank God.
