Question for those in the know....I want two gloss black stripes fitted but at the edge of each main stripe a small coloured stripe, i,e I don't want to see a join between main gloss stripe and colour. I have been told that putting main black stripe down then butting up a single small colour could lead to issues as they possibly shrink. But if i do get a single stripe made with colour its made from vinyl wrap that does not last as long. Anyone got any ideas and who is good at this sort of thing??

Wrap companies can supply/source or cut their own pinstripe that will stay the same diameter all the way along it.

You should be able to ask them to fit say the following
[Red PS][Black PS] X cm gap [Main Stripe] x cm Gap [Main Stripe] x CM gap [Black PS][RedPS]

If that makes any sense lol.

If you want the stipes to last, use paint, if you want vinyl to last, cover it in laquer, again, you'll never be able to remove it.
The pinstripes wont shrink, more chance of blasting them off with a jetwasher!

FYI, just seen your updated post, most pinstripes are sepeate to the main sheet, as it's easier to cut a 0.5CM Pinstripe out of a vinyl than it is to cut the 'colour' off the vinyl

Imagine a Vinyl like a sticker. Which is all it really is in the literal sense of the word. Peel it off stick it on, if you want something adding to the sticker, it's another sticker.

Some companie slike bigworm graphix have premade vinyl sheets they can stick the vinyl colours onto it, however, it's just as well getting a local wrap/signage company to do it.

THere are a few companies round here that can create a single sheet say 10 inches wide, where 9.5 inches is black and .5 inch is colour. I do see most stripes having a gap between main block and stripe, but I want them to appear as one. However if it proves to be less cost effective or cannot be done to a high quality, I may go with 1cm gap .....we shall see. There is someone down the road than can picture the car and design it on screen with you. If you sign it off, then thats what they have to deliver.

the gap, can be whatever you like, they'll just measure it out. you can have a 20cm gap or a 0.2mm gap, totally your call, They can sit stripes next to each other just by laying the vinyls down.

Take for example:

10inch twin stripes with a 4inch gap.
you could put 0.5inches to the sides a thin stripe of 0.1inches in width, and next to that (without overlaying) another of a different colour 0.1inches in width.
It'll end up being separate sheets as you want to, by the sounds of it, have a half n half coloured pinstripe.

Can't open graphic stuff at work.... but like:

RedBlack Gap Black stripe gape black stripe gap BlackRed

If your imagination is anygood, I'm imagining what you want like this.

mine are effectively 4 stripes the red is a high gloss the black is a matt so had to be done from different sheets. its done with 3m stuff they say it'll probably out last the rest of the car.

Just re read, are you on about a pinstripe [MENTION=24040]Goosey[/MENTION] or dual pinstripe next to each other? Think I misread originally and though you wanted two pinstripes next to each other.

Bigworm graphix supplies pinstripes with stripes on one sheet, and any installer can fit them.

As for shrinking, no idea what fking vinyl they use, but it shouldn't shrink!!!

If there's no gap between your main stripe and your pin stripe, the option are as follows

A) Black stripe with red pinstripe butted up (as you suggest) - but any shrinkage, no matter how minuscule, will show

B) Black stripe with red pinstripe mounted on top of the black, and with the edges aligned - this would be difficult to achieve, but any shrinkage should be less obvious.

C) a custom printed black stripe with integrated pinstripe - this will give no issues with shrinkage but may fade after a few years. There's also the possibility that a red pinstripe could be printed onto black vinyl (using a solid ink). will be hard o get the exact colour red you want, and it will still be subject to fading, but the black should be pretty much fade free.

It goes without saying that a good quality (3M or Avery) vinyl will give best performance over the years.
