I did break down and clean the dust when I washed the car today - I just used one of those terry-cloth covered wheel cleaning tools and it did a great job. Gave them a coat of wax when done and they look like new.... even all the little melted rubber clagg came off!
Did it look like this?

3 days of track dust and a set of pads. This was just the initial hose down...

Yep - I'm a NASA HPDE instructor and have run with these guys before. I wasn't far off their pace (i.e., not many passing me) and I prefer to run with drivers I know and trust, versus the mix that you get in the intermediate groups where some have just moved up from novice and others are pushing a little beyond their abilities - just my experience, your mileage may vary.
This x 1,000. Much safer around good drivers passing you than passing drivers who aren't comfortable / experienced enough. Moving through HPDE 1&2 / Red groups almost got me out of racing completely. Much better the higher you go. That's not knocking new guys, we all started there, everyone has to learn, it's just dicey sometimes. I'm still fairly new'ish myself and definitely not instructor / race group ready, but I wouldn't drive current me and my 350 next to new guy me on my first track weekend, haha.
