Where do you keep the wheel lock keys? Don't you just leave them in the trunk or something?

-T
I keep them in the glove compartment, but I once (in pre-cell phone days) had to leave a car in a brake shop for two days because they couldn't find my wheel lock key (which was in the glove box, like I told them)... it just seems like a risk to me, to chance misplacing it and getting stuck on the side of the road.

all my cars have had wheel locks in the past and i never had an issue. i do get scared of misplacing or losing it though.

and i agree, it's more of a hassle than anything else, considering how easy it is to remove w/o the key.

You don't even need anything special...you can beat on a closely-sized socket with one good hit from a 3lb sledge and the lock nuts come right off... Just did it with someone that bought a used Suburban that had locking nuts.

Oxen Hill...explains it.

I grew up in PG County. The majority of the county you might as well be taking your life into your hands the majority of the time.

Not surprised, Landover, Oxen Hill, Suitland, Crossland etc...just bad bad areas.
used to fly patients into PG hospital and we were forbidden from using the lower Helipad for fear of stray gunfire!

Yah it's pretty bad in SE DC and that part of PG County. Even Bowie where I grew up is getting bad. Mainly due to the new town center and that all the people come in from Largo, Landover, etc to go there.

Was talking to an officer one day and she asked if I grew up around there and when and after saying the 80s/90s it was crazy hearing the stuff she had to respond to each day in the late 2000's. Something like at least 1 shooting/gang related thing a day, always a fight or theft near those areas, etc., car thefts all the time, etc. All from outside the Bowie area.

You guys make it sound like PGC is some sort of war zone. Plenty of farm land and expensive neighborhoods too. Take a walk down N Rose in B-more and get back to me about how bad PGC is.

I keep my lug keys in the locking center console. I have the ones from ford that stick out a bit further than the rest of the lugs, I figured if it advertises that it has locking lugs on it from a distance then someone might just move on to the next one.

looks like the DC metro area, but it can be any major city

damn the just dropped the whole car on the rear subframe :/

I dont think wheel locks would have helped, but here's to hoping having an an alarm will

the owner may not have push the lock button twiced
That doesn't arm anything. The beep you get from pressing the lock button twice is explained as such:

Locking the Doors
E138623 <--- this is the lock button icon.
Press the button to lock all the
doors. The direction indicators
flash.
Press the button again within three
seconds to confirm that all the doors are
closed. The doors lock again, the horn
sounds and the direction indicators flash
if all the doors and the luggage
compartment are closed.

AND:

Car Finder
E138623 <--- this is the lock button icon.
Press the button twice within
three seconds. The horn will
sound and the turn signals will
flash. We recommend you use this method
to locate your vehicle, rather than using
the panic alarm.

How to arm your system:

Arming the Alarm
The alarm is ready to arm when there is
not a key in the ignition. Electronically lock
the vehicle to arm the alarm.

So a single push of the lock button on the key fob, or touching the "lock" area on the external door handle will arm any and all alarm systems as long as they were enabled when you left the vehicle (screen will have active alarm and passive alarm as an option upon exit.
