They're not at all at odds with each other.

Under normal driving conditions in my V6, I almost never get above 3,000 RPM, and 99% of the time am below 2,000 RPM. I always keep the fuel-economy gauge up in the cluster, and like to keep it on full bars whenever possible -- dipping into the gas pedal drops it down, so I use a feather on the throttle at all times. It idles at about 750 or 800, and I like to let it get up into 6th gear as soon as possible, around 30 mph or whenever.

My plan for the break-in is to vary the revs between idle and 2,000 for the first thousand miles.
holy shit, that sounds like a boring ass driving experience.

yes. And with such a focus on fuel economy (nothing wrong with that), I wonder about the choice of cars.

I've heard a lot of mechanics say that driving it hard and getting deep and shallow into the RPMs is the best way to properly break-in an engine. Keeping it below 2000 RPM is actually exactly what they tell you NOT to do. You might want to re-think that strategy.

Don't take my word for it though, read up on it.

When I had my 2012 Boss302 it used lots of oil. Enough so that I traded it. New owner noticed same problem. He took it to his dealer and the message from Ford engineering was that it wasn't driven hard enough to seat the rings.

I haven't babied another Mustang I've owned since..... And no oil consumption issues on any Mustangs since

Thanks for your service while keeping our families safe.

Please do post a review and lots of pics of the car. Great choice going with DIB.

Every new car Ive bought from Ford has hit the rev limiter leaving the dealership. Break it in like youre gonna drive it the rest of its life.

Is JimmyTwoTimes a troll account? It has to be, right?

Amazingly, I think he is legit. Now considering his driving style and dealing with traffic conditions NYC the smarter decision would be buying a Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt or equivalent. Or just take public transportation and rent a Mustang for any weekend trips.

I sure hope he ordered a V6 or EcoBoost. Why would you even bother with the 5.0 if you're going to drive it like that.

I've had enough problems with cell phone batteries losing the ability to hold a charge after a year and a half that I'd never buy a battery-powered vehicle.

And you don't feel very cool tooling around in a Prius. You feel cool sitting in a parked Mustang, though. Or hyper-miling one.

Hyper-miling a V8 Mustang? Christ... I mean, if you're really serious about that, and you just care about how you look, why not buy an ecoboost and save yourself some money?

:edit:

Just realized how off-topic this is... sorry about that, Wolfman... Enjoy your Mustang!

thank you very much for your service!!!

Break-in period? I never practice it. I just drive it how I would normally.. if the engine hits the redline and doesn't break at the dealership parking lot, you're good to go.

Nah its just Jimmy.
JimmyTwoK :lol:Sorry I had to. No offense Jimmy you drive your car how you want - h8rs b h8n!! I think as long as you're not really punishing your car, keeping at redline for extended periods etc. during break-in, it's probably going to be just fine.
