Thanks! I love Summit Point, too, especially the karosel. Did my first event there back in 1979 with Bill Scott. Did it a few times since... the last time was in a MINI. OEM run flat tires, cold, in the rain. It was a 2 mile skid pad. Good experience, but lots of work. The on board stability and traction nannies got a workout that day.

A sticking point for getting this car on the track is its lack of a roll bar. The track manager had me sign a special waiver, in addition to the usual waiver, that basically said they were held harmless no matter what happened. Just like the usual, but with even more legalese. If your tracks have a problem with the roll bar thing, you might ask if they have a waiver (unless of course you have a roll bar).
Fun, yeah, I ran Summit at one of the Corvette Challenge events, it was terrific, the only thing that was a little disconcerting was an event the previous weekend had a deer-vs-car accident - I guess it was that time of the year.

I wondered about the convertible situation - I've seen plenty of convertibles at events, some had rollbars, some didn't assuming they had a release like you signed. I never got my S2K on track, but one of the groups I used to track with quite a bit required a 4-point with some kind of specific cert (there was an excellent S2K vendor that built a super nice weld in setup, it even looked good).

Curious what the rear window was doing at high speeds? I had the windows open and top up on the highway at ~70-75 MPH once and the rear window was vibrating enough to make it worry it was going to damage something. All the brackets that support the rear window seem to be in place so I assume it was just the wind load was too much to keep it in place at that speed.

It was flapping, but not much more than at highway speeds and not as bad as I expected. FWIW the whole top was moving around a bit. I really didn't spend a lot of time looking at it though. Focussed a bit more on what was coming up.

The good news is that it came through just fine with no visible damage. As for brackets, I don't know what anybody else has, but mine just seem to have some plastic bits inside the fabric on either side of the window, probably holding the wiring for the window heater... there's no bracket that directly connects my rear window to anything, just stitching and glue (I imagine). Maybe I got cheated?

Were you going like 40mph all the way?
No, but I sure understand the question. I drove at the posted speed limits plus a little bit more sometimes. Mostly at 55/60/65. Used cruise control as much as possible. Maybe I had a tailwind? And, I had a little more tire pressure than normal, probably about 4psi extra. That probably helped, too.

FWIW my best mpg seemed to be between 60 and 65mph.

Damn thats better than my v6! Im at 27-28 mpg
Yeah, but mine was a one time thing, definitely not going to happen again in the near future. I'm sure you're getting that on a regular basis.

On the contrary, it is possible frequently. I used to make a round trip between Chicago and Detroit and would get 28+ mpg going 75 mph.

Yeah, I can imagine not being terribly focused on the rear window while driving at 120! I've followed that thread on the rear window brackets that have popped off for some folks, but honestly I am not sure what is being referred to. I can feel that same bracket on each next to the rear defroster wiring and assume its all good. When the top is up, the windows are almost always up for me too, so its mostly not an issue.

Same for me - I haven't done many long highway trips (> 40 miles), but on the several I have done, I've gotten 27-28 MPG. For me, the highway mileage is better than I was expecting, but sadly the in town, stop and go and up and down hills is worse (and that is what I do most).

29 mpg, wtf.
Mines been stuck st 16.9 and averaging 17.1.
It has not changed except worse, no matter how I drive the car. I roll about 80 freeway miles a day as well.
That's just crazy 2 me that it's that good for you. I also have the 6mt so that may have something to do with it.
I get ~18mpg out of mine.
Note that if you have the performance pack you also have 3.73 rear gears, which will reduce your fuel economy somewhat.

Pretty good MPG for a v8. I can easily get about 30-32 highway around speed 70 but if I want to I can go 65 and get 34 or so.

Quite true. But in my case, I won't be on roads like that for a long time. Most of my trips involve hills, and traffic. I'll still get 26 on trips, but that's about the best I can hope for. But really, that's awesome for a big V8 with this much power, so I'm happy as a kid on Christmas morning. :D

Same lol! My commute is technically mostly highway, but on the way home from work, more than half of it is stop and go. I average about 21-22 now. The stop and go kills it.
