Can someone tell me what features the factory security system has? I ordered an EB premium without the enhanced security package. I'm wondering if I'll need to install an aftermarket security system as well.

Been watching your post, was wondering this as well. Guess it's a mystery still at this point.

I vaguely remember reading it takes the standard security system and enhances it by locking the center console and glove box. Not sure what all the features are.

It's all in the manual -- exterior proximity sensors, interior motion sensors, electronic locking center console, wheel locks -- read the Wiki at the top of the page.

I think the question is what is the security without the enhanced security package.

FYI for Vert orders, enhanced security is standard, was a nice surprise on my order.:clap2:

I think the question is what is the security without the enhanced security package.
The difference is the standard included security package is just a passive security system vs active. The Passive system that is standard is the Securilock Passive Anti-Theft System which uses a chip in the key to match a code on the cars computer when you attempt to start it up. if the keys don't match it disables certain things like the Fuel Pump and starter so it can't be stolen. From Ford's Glossary:

Anti-theft Systems

  • Perimeter anti-theft alarm system
  • Guards the vehicle’s doors, hood and trunk/lift gate. When an unauthorized entry occurs, the system trigger sand will:– Flash the head lamps, parking lamps and theft-indicator lamp on the instrument panel
  • Sound the horn. Note: It will not be triggered by breaking glass or entry into the vehicle through a window. The perimeter anti-theft alarm system is designed to work with the factory-installed Remote Keyless Entry System.SecuriLock® passive anti-theft ignition system
  • Uses a sophisticated electronically coded ignition key to start the vehicle. The system is designed to help prevent the engine from being started unless a coded key programmed to the vehicle is used. There is no battery on the key itself; the small amount of energy required to identify the key is supplied by the vehicle
  • SecuriLock is designed so that it is not necessary for the driver to follow any procedure to arm the system. It is automatically armed when the key is removed from the ignition and is disarmed when the key is reinserted into the ignition
  • Spare keys will be available from dealerships. Customers can program their keys by using each original (2) key in the proper sequence and finally inserting a new key for programming (see Owner’s Guide for more details)
  • There are billions of possible codes

The Enhanced Security is an Active System which is armed when we lock the door rather than just take the key out of the ignition (which we don't have). To my knowledge it has all the same features of the passive but it will go off if the car is rocked (As in being jacked up to steal the tires), windows are broken, etc. I can't find an exact definition on Ford's site but it makes sense that it is included by default on the Convertibles. It will likely go off if anyone cuts open the convertible top, where as the passive wouldn't.

To make it more murky, on my EB Premium sticker (without the additional security package) I list:

* SecureLock Passive Anti-Theft
* Perimeter Alarm

From what little info I can find it seems it ONLY gives the locking middle console and wheel locks? I'm not sure I buy the explanation above completely.

As a follow-up, a snippet of my sticker - the pertinent info is in the last column 1/2 way down.

Yeah as I said the passive alarm and perimeter sensors are standard. Now what the perimeter sensors do I am not sure. Perhaps the only differences are the Active vs Passive and the console locking. I do know that with Active, the alarm goes off with a broken window or any car movement. I can't say if car movement will set off the passive but a broken window will not for sure.

Thanks for all the info. Looks like maybe the standard perimeter alarm is still a bit of a mystery.

I think I've figured it out partially.

The "Active" has motion sensors if the vehicle is bumped or moved in some way (e.g. unauthorized towing), interior motion sensor, and likely a separate alarm as opposed to using the car horn.

This in addition to the wheel locks and the locking middle console.

FYI for Vert owners... the sensors are no joke. If I leave my windows down in the garage I can't go in without setting them off through the open windows. It's go to be 'worse' with the Verts and top down. I could see it getting real annoying in a single car garage.
Why would you leave your windows open in the garage? I'd be afraid of spiders and things crawling inside.

This is cool. So if the battery on our keyfob dies, we can still open the car as long as the car battery is fine?

I was worried I would have to tear open that hole in the driver's side door handle.
