I would like to get an extended warranty, but I don't drive much. Everyone has extended warranties for 3/36 or 4/48. I need an extended warranty for 4 years and 10k miles. Paying for 36k or 48k miles is foolish. Does anyone offer warranty coverage for old guys that don't drive much?

Just be sure to read the fine print for the following:

- Does the ESP selected run concurrently with any existing Warranty, which means does the ESP go into effect based on the actual purchase date of the vehicle when it was new?

- What does the ESP NOT cover? Everyone is always hyper focused or concerned about what an ESP covers. The problem is, the "gotcha" is what the ESP doesn't cover when it comes time for XYZ part to fail, the owner didn't read the fine print and is slapped with a hefty service bill or is told the repair won't be covered under the ESP provisions.

One other thing to consider:
Is the car going to be kept long term, or say 8-10 years or greater? Even though one may not drive many miles, sometimes the "years" runs out faster than the miles in those instances. I would purchase the most Mos./Miles possible if financially feasible and the intent is to hold onto the vehicle long term.

That won't work for me. I'll be driving it 4 years and 10k miles, on top of the 16k it will have when the regular warranty expires.

So what car are you asking about?
My current car is a BMW, but It wasn't meant to be about a specific car. It's a problem that has existed for me for about 10 years and several cars. I usually buy used cars with low mileage and some warranty left, but not enough to cover the length of time I will keep the car.

Then what I posted will not apply. I would still try to stay with a manufacturer warranty. I’ve yet to see an aftermarket warranty that there weren’t issues with repairs, but I’m sure they exist.

I no longer have a Mustang.

Fidelity Platinum policy covers everything except specific exclusions. Most others identify what is included, not what isn't, so there are lots of loopholes.

Probably the smartest thing is to self insure. Meaning you have enough money to repair the car yourself if necessary. Since the odds are low that the car will actually need repair, you probably will save a bunch of money by not buying insurance. Of course, I have heard many horror stories about BMWs, but the straight 6 BMW engines are supposed to be the best they make.

I have set aside money for major repairs on the German cars I have owned. But, the potential for $15k - $70k for repairs can really stress you out, otherwise, I'd still own a Porsche. With BMWs you really need to do your homework. The B58 engine and ZF 8 speed transmission in the Z4 are about as good as it gets for German cars.
