I’ve been noticing recently that when I rev match into 2nd gear in sport mode with the exhaust valves fully open, it sounds like it closes. I’ll blip it from 3rd to 2nd and suddenly it sounds like the valves are suddenly fully closed.

seems to only happen when I keep the rev range above 3500 when blipping from 3rd to 2nd, but soundA just fine and loud if I’m rev matching from 3rd to 2nd within the 3500 or below rev range. I’d imagine if anything, it should be the the opposite (should be loud in the mid to high rev range regardless, like WOT in 6th gear and high revs).

Curious if this is linked to some of the sticky or faulty exhaust valve/flap issues some of you have. This ONLY happens to me in the scenario of rev matching from 3rd to 2nd in the mid to high rev range. Seems to happen every now and again (maybe one in every 4-5 downshifts from 3rd to 2nd). So not all the time, but enough to notice it. Just seems odd.

Anyone else experience this issue?

car is a 2019 R.

I know this pretty old post but I was searching to see if it was just me but yes I have the same issue. When I go into 3rd to 2nd the valves to randomly close at times. I didn't really notice it before but now that I replaced the resonators its more noticeable. Doesn't happen all the time like you but it happens on occasion.

I haven't paid much attention to the rev range but I do hear it at times. So I do have the issue.

After this happens do you check the valve setting and confirm it’s in quiet mode and still in sport mode?

Yeah it says its still in sport which is weird.

The same thing happens when you from 6th to 5th. I originally thought mine stayed open because the settings remained in sport, but the valves actually close despite staying in sport mode. It doesnt happen everything time like 6th to 5th though. Like OP says, it happens randomly. I've only noticed it happen only a few times since I got my car in August. So its not a big deal.

The car is alot louder now so I can hear clearly now whenever the valves close by themselves in sport mode.

Same thing happens to me. Normal mode with exhaust flaps set to open. Not worth complaining about but it is odd. I have noticed no underlying logic.

Same thing. On my 19R, every 1 out of 10 times, the 3nd to 2nd downshift closes the valves and its silent with weaker throttle response. its really strange. the exact same thing happens to my friends 20 HEP R. the car stays in sport mode with sport exhaust, but ive noticed this maybe once on every other drive. Its a bug in the software somewhere. Really odd.
