Ive been see ing a lot of custom exhausts on here that sound better than aftermarket 1k+ exhausts and it got me thinking could i just buy the muffler and go to a exhaust shop and have them weld everything together for me or are those muffler designed specifically for that vehicle and not sold separately???

It's a turbo car so stick with straight through design mufflers - Magnaflow, Borla or similar.

Also if you plan on keeping the car for a long time make sure you find a shop that will use stainless pipe (if it's needed for the size muffler you choose). If you let them use aluminized pipe it will eventually rust off.

Wait so when magna flow and borla come out with exhaust systems what is changed? The muffler or the custom fabrication of the stainless steel to your vehicle?:headbonk:

They usually will pick a muffler they already have or design a new one and fabricate the rest of the system to get the sound/results they desire.

Every manufacturer is different.

Bolt-on solution, you don't have to hack up your stock exhaust, you can downsize it into pieces, etc.

That is what I am doing as soon as the weather breaks. I have a welder so I am going it myself. Two MagnaFlo mufflers, two tips and 18" of rod for the hanger. It will cost my $185 and an hour or so of my time.

They can't, it's approaching being criminal what is being charged. I have a manderal bent 2.5" system on my 68 Barracuda that cost me less than $300 from Summit Racing. It's aluminized steel but the cost difference between steel and stainless steel isn't going to be more than $100.
