Why are they charging $800+ for

2 Mufflers with tips
2 feet of bent pipe
2 Clamps

I dont get it. I'd rather keep the stock sound and buy a used one in a year.

Putting a muffler in the middle of the exhaust is going to limit your ground clearance and will be the lowest part on your vehicle. So if you plan on doing any suspension upgrades I suggest keeping to a manufactured catback!

The resonator is 3.75" at it's thickest according to PewterCam's measurements when he cut the res up. A Borla Pro XS is only 4". Not to be argumentative but .25" loss of ground clearance isn't much.

Are you referring to the Magnaflow Street Series? If so, that's $800+ for a catback, not Axleback.

All you're really gaining is sound. I'd say save the extra cash and a pick an axle back your like.



I've got a Focus ST I know the feeling about expensive catbacks.

For an axle back, yes, for a full cat back no, there are gains there.

Even Axlebacks are on the pricey side. I remember how axlebacks for the 2011-2014 GT's were cheap, about $350 average. For the GT and EcoBoost its like over $500! If I'm gonna pay that much i want horsepower gains too, not just sound.

When I bought my Roush axleback exhaust for my 11 the price was in the $300 range, but even those are almost $500 now...

I am doing an axle back on my car myself. Two MagnaFlow mufflers $70 each, two tips for $40, 18" of 1/2" rod $5 for a total of $185 and an hour of my time with my welder.

It's bordering on criminal what they charge for bolt in exhaust systems when you look at the material costs. For what I am paying for $185 a business is paying $100 wholesale. Factoring the cost of fixturing, labor and overhead no axle back should cost more than $350.

The most popular axle backs for the 2011-2014 Mustangs were the GT500 axle backs. Guys were getting them from GT500 owners for dirt cheap and even FRPP was selling them for $350. Hopefully we see prices like that in a year or two.

Gains from anything change post cats on the newer cars would be hardly anything. Handful at the most, you're essentially just getting sound.

I have to go back and see what MAP picked up by going to a 2 1/2 diameter cat back but it wasn't bad numbers.

I think I read their car gained like 19HP and 11TQ. To me that's pretty good gains.

Trusting dyno numbers are like trusting statistics, they can be made to say whatever they want.

19hp and 11tq is well within the margin of error. Different temp, heat soak, gas, etc. Unless those were back to back runs with the same car within hours of each other the numbers are totally useless. Even then the runs still vary quite a bit.
