I am thinking about modifying my exhaust, hoping y’all can bestow some of your knowledge on this noob

I got quoted $75 per side for resonator delete, $85 per side for muffler delete for a total of $320. If I want X-pipe it would be an additional $75, which would bring the total to $395.

Is adding an x-pipe worth it? When it comes to pure decibels would it be better to get resonator delete or muffler delete? What exhaust mods route would you recommend? What do y’all think about the prices in the West Houston market?

I did mine in stages, I replaced the mufflers first, with the FR Touring and left the resonator and it did not sound much louder than stock. I then put in an H pipe and it made a large difference.

So you may just want to try an X pipe and save some cash keeping the mufflers.

I found a used MRT H-pipe on this site and bought the SLP-LM2 axlebacks directly from SLPonline.com . My total all in cost is $530.00. I did the install myself, so that saved me labor and only cost me a total of about 1.5 hours of my time while back onto my race-ramps.

I'm selling a used H pipe for $100 shipped. Shouldnt take a shop 20 minutes to swap out the stock with this, or you can do it yourself in the same amount of time. Super easy. Let me know if you would like any more info.

Agreed with the, go Xpipe/Hpipe and see what you think first.
2 reasons
1 the resonator delete ,X or H pipe will get rid of that 30 lbs suitcase.
2 doing both together could increase the exhaust louder than you might like.
I went with the Xpipe and Roush axle back, pretty loud!! Sounds good but it is loud

The SLP and H-pipe sounds about 20% louder than my '14 GT500 did stock. Which is perfect. Zero rasp or drone.

listen to videos. read reviews.

there is no performance increase from swapping out the resonator.

with that in mind, doing a muffler delete will give you a lot of sound. the stock mufflers are heavy too so you will get some weight savings there. There are a few axle back exhausts that are just muffler deletes as well.

however, doing an h/x and keeping the stock mufflers won't net you as much sound. the stock mufflers are pretty quiet and swapping out the mid section only gives you a bit more character but not much.

just my opinion.

I agree you should find another shop. Those guys don't know anything about the S550 or they were trying to rip you. The Resonator is one piece, there is no taking off the left and then the right. Then if you buy a H or X pipe,it goes in the system where the resonator was. So take out resonator put in H/X pipe. Shouldn't be $250 unless they are building a pipe for you.

So what exactly were they planning on doing? Cutting out pieces and welding in replacement tubes?

I have a feeling that this is a photo of the mechanics in questions.

The fact they want to charge $75 per side to remove a resonator gives the low IQ away. "No sir, just want one side going through the resonator, the other straight piped." Facepalm

Run as fast as you can! There is no "side" to the resonator and that price is ridiculous! :eyebulge:

I had my local shop remove the resonator, and install a cutom H-pipe for $120. There is no need to buy a H-pipe separately unless you plan on doing the work yourself. They are all the same.

I can't agree enough with what other posters have suggested about trying the resonator delete first, and then going axle back later if you want. Doing both at the same time might be too loud for you.
