thanks... that is what I thought. If the Borla doesn't work out i will most likely go with the Corsa Sport Cat Back.. now I know that is different from your AB setup. There is the double X pipe.. but from what I am hearing from others who have the Catback it is a similar story.. I imagine that the MF TruX might give it a more deeper muscle car tone than the X pipe that comes with the CorsaCat Back....
It's close. Mine is kinda halfway inbetween the Sport catback and Xtreme catback on tone (a little deeper than Xtreme), but at the Sport catback in volume. I would probably be completely satisfied with the Sport catback but I got a crazy deal on the Sport axleback last year and made it work

2 questions:
1. so what are you running in front of the axle back? do you have the stock resonator and pipes?
2. when you said bad clamps.. are you talking about the Ford Factory clamps? My understanding is that most after market exhausts use the existing hangers and clamps. are you talking about the clamps up by the headers?
I'm currently running stock resonator with Corsa touring axle back.

The clamps that i got with the Corsa failed miserably. They have since sent new ones, and I added some tack welds on the stock clamps to help. No issues since.

That's just part of the S-type. You'll always have a hum at cruise. Dynamat may help.

Also @theman , you need longer pipes than that to get the problem drone areas. 28-29" to get a targeted zone where it usually occurs.
that was my rough estimate as I didn't note an exact rpm from his post... if his cruising area of problem is down closer to 2000 I can see where that extra length works better. doing the actual math would be essential if the work was to be done, and whoever he takes it to could easily do a slip over extension to tune it even further.

Lorne - you were already looking at hacking it up to add a resonator that would not give you the desired results...adding these two exhaust dongs would not bother your warranty any more than the exhaust you already put on there would. If you somehow get your full refund back from Borla, then by all means spend the extra $$ towards a corsa instead of adding the dongs...seems like a great solution. My suggestion is more the frugal real results route to get your goal of sound without the pain.

thanks for the response to my questions.... I hope that I don't suffer a similar fate if I decide to switch from the borla to corsa... I don't know if I could stand anymore exhaust drama at this point....

That's what I want, slightly louder than the res delete. Plus I have the h-pipe if I ever want to make the axle back louder. I have that option. Or run it with the stock res to keep it tame.

Now find me one in Houston so I can hear it!!!!

lol
Haven't read the whole thread...just to this post. I'm in San Antonio. I have the FR by Borla Touring catback and love it. It's a true x-pipe, two mid-pipes and two full-size mufflers.

IMO there is a little drone at 2K but it's livable b/c basically it's non-existent below or above 2K rpm.. 2K in 6th is about 65mph. Let's be honest; with the open highways in TX, how often are you at 2K? I'm not there too often. :headbang:

"Noise" is a very broad, gray area. And very subjective. Maybe you're overly-sensitive to drone. Maybe for whatever reason that frequency is like nails on a chalkboard to you. Or a hundred other very subjective things.

I was in the same boat as you. Wanted a "better exhaust note" but at $1K+ a pop for catback systems, plus my time to install it, "testing a few out" wasn't in the cards.

I did a lot of research to avoid wasting my time and money. SO MUCH research that I made a video to document my stock vs. FP by Borla Touring upgrade and took exact, high quality decibel measurements of both.

See here: [ame]

It's not a 100% perfect scientific experiment, but I utilized good gear and some controls. IMO it's way better than the usual "I pointed my phone at the back of my car while my buddy revved the snot out it" exhaust videos.

I can tell you that the sound you hear, both stock and aftermarket, is real, valid and a good representation of what it really sounds like. If you don't have good speakers, put on some headphones.

Thanks.. I think I saw your video posted on the 6g main page! great job by the way!.. I was really debating between the Ford Racing version of Borla vs the Borla "direct' product that they produce. At first I thought they were the same thing, but after much research realized that the mufflers and resonator pipes were different and produced specifically for Ford Corp. I guess the thing that drew me to the Borla S vs Ford Performance was the deeper tone and less rasp...not that the Ford was bad, but I just liked the tone of the Borla better.....I also really considered the touring... vs the sport... I may just bite the bullet and put the borla H resonator (instead of the x pipe) on just to see what it sounds like...just for my own piece of mind...

Hey Guys,
My deepest aplologies for not updating this thread earlier. Between my work and other things I have not gotten around to update this thread. Part of me wanted to wait until i was sure of the results. First I want to say that the folks at Borla (Chris and David) have been top notch and very accomodating to try and get my issue resolved. I tried several sound dampening methods and even replaced the Borla S with a brand new identical system and still had the resonance and in-cabin noise issues. I did NOT try the Borla resonator based on BODAM's experience and the fact I did not want to do to the borla touring system... I drove down to Milwaukee to visit KWK and ride along in his S550 with a Corsa Sport system. I wasn't overly impressed with the Corsa System, but we didn't really do a ton of driving and it is hard to really make a full impression unless you are in the drivers seat and really work it through the paces. I had issues with headaches on the drive down and decided I was going to move on from the borla.. The time spent did give me enough information to decide to take the leap and purchase the Corsa Sport Catback (Thanks Beefcake!). At first I felt like I was at a funeral getting rid of the Borla as I loved the deep tone and the pops/gurgles.. (which I still miss at times) It took me about a week of driving with the Corsa Sport to fall in love again. I can say without hesitation that BMACIL is spot on in his assessment. The reduction in cabin noise is amazing. Driving on the highway is a joy now as the system is very quiet. I can drop down to 5th and accelerate to hear it again if I want. In town driving you have to have the windows down to really experience it, but it is a very distinct tone.. deep but with a race car growl.. still makes noise (gurlges, back gassing) when lifting off the accelerator pedal which puts a smile on my face. The noise on accelleration and WOT is exotic but with enough muscle car growl to satisfy.. the tone is also constant all the way up with no rattling...My son made a comment that the sound fits the new modern design..vs.the old school deep muscle car tone. I wish it was just a tad louder inside of the cabin on accleration (with windows up), but otherwise I am extremely pleased with the results and will stick with this system. In the end I feel I did not have to compromise or go back to stock to get the feel, sound, and experience I was looking for... Thanks to everyone who commented on this thread and offered their advice, knowledge and encouragement. If anyone wants to know more about the Corsa system and my experience please let me know and I will be happy to help out....

Totally agree. IMHO, I love how these coyotes sound "exotic" with the Corsa exhaust. They aren't foxbodies....so they shouldn't sound like one. While I love muscle car rumble, the snarls coming from the coyote are just downright evil sounding.

It's a great blend of sound. millhouse if you love the snarls from the Sport, you'd go :eyebulge: from the Xtreme.
