From what I understand the part was not upgraded. It was a stock part which means much like the e90 BMW 335 waste gate fiasco the solution will be to eternally remove and replace these as they go out.

I wonder if there's an operational consideration which may be giving these a short life? Should the AC be turned off when we shut the vehicle down or something like that?
On the bold, funny you mention that.

Many years ago I had a car in which the AC compressor seized after shutting the car down with the AC on, resulting in a PITA. Ever since then I always shut a vehicle's AC down before turning off the ignition, even though such a seizure could realistically occur at any time.

Hopefully this long-running paranoia pays off in this case.... ;)

I'm not sure I understand the reasoning for turning the A/C off before turning the engine off....... When you turn the A/C off, you are removing power from the compressor clutch and the refrigerant will then equalize. Turning the engine off does exactly the same thing to the A/C, so what's the difference?

Won't make a difference. The compressor clutch is electromagnetic so if you remove power from it either turn it off before shutting down or just shut down the car with it it will stop the compressor and pressure will eventually equalize.
Now on some older cars, the compressor clutch will engage before the engine is turned on causing starting difficulties but that is long time ago.

Reminds of the "Rules My Dad Taught Me... " about cars, most of which is obsolete now (and may have been even then...) Stuff like:

> When you park the car, turn off all powered accessories (AC, radio, etc.) before you shut down the engine. That way it won't drain the battery or be a drain on power when you start it again.

> Never turn the steering wheel if the car isn't moving. Turning the wheels with the car stopped will overtax the power steering pump or hoses and puts stress on the tierods.

> Never turn the steering wheel all the way to the left or right lock position--it's bad for the power steering.

> If you have an auto tranny, when you park on a hill always set the parking brake before releasing the main brake, or the car's weight will rest on the parking pawl and either break it or jam the transmission in Park

> If the car has air conditioning, don't turn it off and on a lot, and if you turn it off let it "rest" a while before you turn it on again. Something to do with preventing pressure spikes or some other phenomenon that will "blow the seals"...

Also remembering on old cars with a carb how you'd have to pump the gas pedal on a cold start...

Ac started blowing warm from driver side so I’m at dealer to get it looked at. Evaporator is leaking and they are replacing it under warranty. 20800 miles, had car since 8/2015. They’re saying it’s normally a 1.5 day job, but since they have it already torn apart while diagnosing, it will be done by end of day. Not sure how that math adds up but since they don’t offer courtesy cars, I’m stuck at the dealership today. Yay Gary Yeomans Ford.

I was talking an older car....yet the paranoia remains. ;)

Hmm, Palm Coast Ford changed out my evaporator in 5 hours and gave me shuttle service back and forth to my house.

I am considering going to Gary Yoeman Ford to get the performance tune since Palm Coast Ford doesn't seem to have a clue about it, lol.

I got there at 9:30am and the car was finished at 3:30pm. Overall not bad. They offered a shuttle but I live 35 miles south so that was a no-go. I did get free lunch out of it though at the waiting room cafe.

They used the new Y part to replace the evaporator.

For you all that have had the failed evaporator...is that something that shows up for them on a bleed and pressure test? My AC wasn't keeping up on the last high 80's day we had and they said it passed the tests. It hasn't been hot enough since then to retest. My compressor seems to be dying, which started within a day of picking it up after the AC testing.

Looks like the evaporator is around $425 and 5 hours of labor to install is around $325 so the total cost should be somewhere around $800, which is just a rough estimate on my part.

A few months ago I had the APIM module changed. Last week replaced the drive shaft due to a defective carrier bearing. Yesterday started blowing warm driver side air/cool passenger side air and underhood whining only with A/C on. Dear god this sh*t is getting old. :frusty: Going in the shop Tuesday.

Mine starting blowing warm air out of the drivers side today and I drove it straight to the nearest Ford dealer and made an appointment for Monday. Purchased 08-2015 with 17k miles.

Somebody else mentioned around $1500. Let me see if I can bring up his post.

Edit: I underestimated the guy's repair cost. Here is his quoted post.
Just got my diagnosis, evaporator core $1775 Plus tax. F you Ford this is highway robbery. I'm going to start a war with them, I will continue to complain to them until they do the right thing. If you paid out of pocket keep your receipt incase they do a recall.

Did anyone else with the evaporator core problem try recharging the AC with a refrigerant that also contains a sealant?

I did and I'm coming up on four months since then and it's still blowing cold. I know it's likely not a permanent fix. I'm just wondering how long this has worked for anyone else who tried it.

Also, I've got the extended warranty so I'm not concerned about getting the evaporator core replaced before the normal warranty expires. I've got almost 40k miles so it already has anyway.
