I just had a thought, sparked by a conversation on the Kia GT forums (as I presently own a Kia Hot Hatch) about different states of tune and octane of fuel used therein.

We all know that the Coyote V8 is in such a tune that it can run on low quality 87 that is used throughout the USA, but I'm curios as to how much power could be extracted if you were to tune it quite harshly so it would only run on 0-Ethanol Premium 91 and/or 93 (Regular 95 and Premium 97 in the UK, respectively).

91AKI/95RON is the absolute minimum we get in the UK so we may as well tune out the need for 87.

Anyone got more information on this? I can't really find anything solid on it.

If that is the case then get a BAMA tune for 93 octane.

435 HP is the HP when your running 93 US (run 91 or 87 and your horsepower takes a hit).
The Boss 302 version of the engine (slightly hotter) when the "red key" was activated mandated 91 fuel and ran 444 HP.

Unless your seriously into drag or road course racing you will not be able to tell the difference between 435 and 445 HP--unless you paid a bunch of money for a tune then your "mind" feels it. Very much the placebo effect in play.

So you are not really going to gain too much with a different tune that is in any way 'safe'-- I seriously doubt more then 5-10 HP.

So not as extreme as a Turbo engine. I've never really looked at anything that isn't charged in some form, so excuse my ignorance. :)

The turbo car I have now mandates 95 (91) minimum, and a tune can add another 15~25% depending on how you do it and still run on 95. Having it only run on 97 (93) would probably see 30%+ increases.

Isn't the 15's engine from last years BOSS?
