Recently took a 3300 mile road trip in my M1 HP with Steeda dual rate springs and hit a ratchet tie down strap that didn’t clear the splash guard under the engine. This resulted in 4 holes in the splash guard that needed fixing.

I had removed my lower splitter for the road trip, this made the removal of the splash guard straight forward. Here’s a link to the removable lower splitter mod if you’re interested. Link

I chose to use fiberglass cloth and JB Weld Plastic Bonder Black for the repair. The repair steps were:
Clean splash guard
Rough up area around repair area with a scotch brite pad
Cut fiberglass patches oversize
Clean repair area with alcohol
Apply Plastic Bonder (PB) to perimeter of repair area
Work fiberglass patch onto repair area, let cure
Trim excess fiberglass
Apply skim coat of PB to repair area, let cure
Repeat to get a rigid patch
Apply skim coat to other side of guard
This is a good time to stake those nut clips and rivnuts (if you have the removable lower splitter mod)

The working time for the PB is short, use small batches, especially for the skim coats. I didn’t try to rebuild the one recessed mounting point that got destroyed figuring the guard is secure with the multitude of fastener’s employed 😉.

Read a post where another gentlemen used 5mm well nuts that worked out well to hold the lower splitter on.

My new 22 Mach 1 splash guard is cracked and was damaged upon delivery. How hard was it to remove? Did it take very long? The screw removal seems pretty straight forward but I was wondering about the black push pins? Do they break easy? Can they be re-used or do I need to purchase new ones before installing the new splash guard that the dealer is going to supply to me. I have a lift in my garage which should make the job easy. Thanks!

@nockiefla If you have the non-HP or the lower splitter was not installed on an HP car, then it is really straight forward. I reused my push pins that are located around the wheel well openings without any issues. With a lift, it should be even easier.

On a HP car, I believe the lower splitter may need to be removed first.

Thanks so much for your reply. I do not have the HP version with the handling package. The push pins around the wheel wells seem easy to remove. The one I was most concerned about is the the one behind the oil filter trap door that is sort of in the middle. It appears to be rounded and flush. I would assume you would use a trim tool to remove it?

On a side note the dealer already had to order 2 of these for me that both came in damaged from Ford because of the way they ship them! The Ford part number is MR3Z 17626 A.

Other than the scraped and cracked belly pan which I believe was done by the auto transport co that delivered the car to my dealer my car has been flawless. I am thankful that was the only thing wrong with my car. A plastic belly pan replacement is really not big deal.

Yes, I was able to reuse that one as well.

If you are asking about the "deflector" (aka engine splash guard) I believe it is MR3B-6A975-A, at least it is what it said on mine:

I took the part number right off the Ford Part sticker on the actual part. So I am not sure about what you are saying is the correct part number. Maybe in Europe they use a different part?

The part you quoted above:

Is actually the lower front splitter. (https://www.levittownfordparts.com/sku/mr3z-17626-aa.html).

I was giving a part number for the engine bay deflector (and honestly, was not sure about what @bateto_007 was asking about).

I can see now my error - adding an A to the part number led me to the lower splitter. I believe you guys that you have this part. Unfortunately, I do not have the packaging, just the part I recently replaced and the only numbers remotely resembling the Ford part numbers on it were the ones I posted on the photo.

So now I wonder, what is the number printed directly on the part, if it is not a part number? (F150X also looks suspicious).

Knockdown is correct. That is the part number for the shield. The issue is that Ford does not send the shield in a box! It is just shipped loose on a truck! Why does this not surprise me. So I am now waiting for the 3rd one for my car which is on backorder of course!

Great write-up Knockdown, thank you for sharing the repair process. I think this part is going to take a beating over time. This looks way better than my current zip-tie repair 😕

I ran over a bucket that really did a number on my shield. I ended up ordering the shield from fordparts.com and having it delivered to a local dealer, that way I was able to avoid the freight shipping charges. It was definitely not in a box, I couldn't help but laugh a bit when the guy behind the counter came out of the stock room with the shield all flopping about and handed it to me that way.

If any of you guys could take a look on your splash guard, once you received it, I would be interested in knowing what part number is printed on it. It is on the upper side (facing the engine) behind the three mounting holes.
