Bringing this back from the dead with hopes someone ultimately got to the bottom of this. Happened to me tonight slowing down from spirited driving. That's twice in one month. Bone stock (well, added Pedal Commander yesterday). Thankfully I have the 6 SP, so it starts right up as I'm rolling in neutral. Seems to be the same each time happens when coming down from spirited driving. All of a sudden the start button starts flashing and a message pops up between the gauges saying something like, "accessories...only", couldn't ignore cars around me to read it.

i had a similar problem with my mazda 626. Random engine shutoffs. Very scary. Mazda pursued it and found that it was a capacitor that was bad in the electronic distributor. Just a data point.

Think it has something to do with the tune, I posted this when I was stock and when I got the car tuned it never happened again

Yea lol, hasn't happened in a while now. I don't know what it is, it happens at random and can't be replicated. I've stopped worrying about it now since my car is Lund tuned. They reflashed mine too but it happened after again.

My car hasn't had this issue at all since it's been tuned, don't think it fixed it; Just hasn't happened yet.
I have a 2016 Mustang GT. Mine is automatic but I have a similar issue. I'll be at a stop light, it will idle hard, the RPM's drop and the car will start to shut off. Usually, I will press the accelerator, the RPM's go back up and it will recover. It actually shut off on me twice. Once 2 years ago and again today. It is so random.

The dealers haven't found anything. I made them keep the car for 3 weeks and they got nothing. It's maddening. Both times, it shut off, the car started back up with no problem. I will have the dealer check the suggestion that was left on the post as well. Hope this fixes it.

I have a 2017 Mustang GT that will not hold revs and sometimes shuts off when shifting up for the first 15 to 30 seconds after starting. Revs drop very quickly when shifting, sometimes all the way to zero! (ie, engine off). In this case, it will start right back up with a push of the button. It also results in very hard shifts during those first few seconds. I also double clutch upshifts which may have something to do with this.

I’ve learned to consciously hold the revs and match with the accelerator during those first few seconds, OR short shift at very low revs (1800 or so as not an issue at low revs) OR just wait 30 seconds before driving off until the ECU kicks in and holds the revs for me. Interestingly, my 2015 Mustang GT does not do this - so something to do with the ECU I would imagine?

To test this, find a safe place, full stop, and turn off the engine. Now start the engine, and then immediately start driving. Rev right up to 3K to 3.5K, clutch in and foot off the gas, and shift to neutral, clutch out and coast. If you have this issue, if will be obvious as revs will drop very rapidly (or engine will shut off) compared to the next time you do that test without stopping and starting the engine before accelerating and shifting in the same way after a full stop.
