My 2019 Bullitt has just developed a new sound coming from the engine bay. Its a random light popping sound at idle, seems to be coming from the drivers side of the engine. Usually does it 2-3 times in quick succession, then not again for 5-10 seconds. The car has 9300 miles on it. Dealer changed oil and filter last week, level is OK. The AC was not on, so probably not anything to do with that. Any ideas?

Sounds like the dreaded 'tick'. Yeah, post a video, and we can confirm that. It usually rear its ugly head after the first or second oil change. Was it your first, or second? And finally, it's reportedly minimized when oil level is at the max level, which is at the upper dot (a little hole in the middle of the dipstick) above the hash marks. If that doesn't fix it, or at least minimize it, so you can stand it, you could always use the oil additive 'Ceratec', which reportedly eliminates it. I hope I never have to decide to use it or not myself, but the noise would have to be loud and/or embarrassing enough to do so, since I don't like to use any additives in the oil, especially during warranty. Good luck man, and sorry to hear you're yet another member of the 'tick' club.

Before any assumptions are made please post the video and let’s see if we can determine what it is.

It doesn't sound like a tic, more of a popping sound, like a suction line being disconnected. Only at idle, and it's not continuous. Pops 2-3 times quickly, then again 5-10 seconds later. Just had the third oil change. I'll see if I can upload a short video.

Maybe an exhaust pop?

Like a BBQ igniter? Or like metal that is getting hotter or cooling off? Get it in so it's documented if it'll make you feel better but don't expect service department to do anything about it unless it throws codes. Other that the sound, car runs just fine?

Cars make noise. Engines make noise. 98% probability it's nothing.

More of a noise like sticking your finger in your cheek and popping it out. That's a hell of a description. :) You're probably right Sivi, if there is no code they probably won't do anything. Runs great other than that new sound.

My neighbor, who has a 4.6 Terminator Mustang, came over and he was baffled too. He said he was amazed about how quiet the engine ran at idle,

I have both noises that are talked about a lot. BBQ tick at idle and the DI rattle at 2k ish. Car runs better than fine and I've only had the 2k rattle documented but I'm really not worried about it anymore. My sales guy/friend said you don't need to worry till it stops making sounds lol. Glad to hear it's still running strong and I hope you continue to enjoy the hell out of it!

I've just begun to notice this noise as well, it is random and they're not in quick succession. It's hard to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from but it seems to be underneath the driver's side and towards the rear, so I was suspecting something related to the exhaust.

It almost sounds as if someone was locked in the trunk and they were lightly pounding the trunk floor with their fist.
