Hi so i’m getting into understanding cars and i’ve been searching up and asking around about the engine oil pressure. Someone said it’s erratic oil and i don’t know for sure if that’s the case but base line is before the gauge didn’t indicate anything much but today i was looking and even low rpm i see the gauge needle does up and down during accelerating or just cruising. I have a picture with this post showing where it usually is and how it bounces up and down every shift and when i’m pushing the car it makes sense why it bounces up and down but low rpm? if anyone could help and explain that would be greatly appreciated thank you very much

Welcome to the Forums.

I have a 2022 with a 5.0 and a manual.

At cold start, oil pressure pegs the needle, all the way over; this is normal.

Once the car is warmed up, oil pressure is about 20 psi and steady.

While shifting, oil pressure varies with RPM, higher pressure with higher RPM.

It's not unusual to see 60 psi or more during a shift.

To see pressure varying while driving is normal. Is your concern pressure is varying when at idle?

Shifting has nothing to do with oil PSIs. It's the load/RPMs that the engine is under. When you increase throttle and RPMs, the oil pressure increases.

Oil pressure is electronically controlled by the PCM via a Solenoid on the filter housing. Gone are the days of a baseline pressure number that increases with engine RPM.
