Engine light - low coolant temperature

The car has 6,400 miles on it and has been tracked once (two weeks ago). This morning engine light came on. I went and had it scanned.

P0128

Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)

It's 65 degree outside. The coolant fluid is stock.

Any idea why? :shrug:

Typically a P0128 is issued when the PCM thinks the car is taking too long to warm up. The intent is that it is trying to detect a malfunctioning thermostat - one that is stuck open. So, it could either be this or, possibly a bad sending unit itself. (Frankly not sure if there IS a coolant sensor as Ford has been increasingly reliant on Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) and then computes coolant temps.)

Drive to the nearest FP dealer, they'll gladly change it for you. I've had mine changed as well.

Happened to me twice in last 1,000 miles. I just reset it with a scanner

Get rid of it!!!! It's ruined!!! Engine might fail! The OPG is going bad! or maybe its the brake reservoir line that did it!?! Squeaky brakes? JKD! LOLOLOLOLOLO ! A dude on FB got rid of his because it happened to him twice, he had an R. lol

The guy was specifically suggesting to bring the car to "FP" as in Ford Performance dealership. My local Ford doesn't sell any FP car. I had to ask.

Up here any work done on specialty Ford vehicles has to be performed by a licensed SVT Ford dealership. They haven't made the switch to Ford Performance as of yet.

This. Happened to me after about 1,500 miles and a track day. Thermostat was stuck open. Swapped in a new one and problem solved.

same thing happened to me at 3k mi I reset the light to see if it came back on before taking it in and the car now has 8k mi on it and it never came back

I had the same issue - thermostat installed under warranty in the first 5,000 miles.
