It was a nice day today so I washed the GT. I do my best to not directly put water in the hood vents.

Anyway, after a wash and dry, I let it sit and when I walked up to it the lights flashed once, then twice, then the trunk opened. Odd, I thought, and closed the trunk. Then when I got behind the wheel and closed the door, the horn honked twice, the same "key is not in range" honks.

I shrugged it off, and when I turned on the car it wouldn't sync my phone like it always does very rapidly unless I manually paired it.

I notice when I wash the car that water runs alongside the painted edges of the engine bay and pools, but it was weird to have the car act up like that.

Did something vital perhaps get wet? It seems to be OK now.

maybe the key fob got wet ?

Mustang has too many electronics. Strangely, no MyKey RPM Limiter / valet mode. What's with that?

I have only washed my car a couple of times so far, and each time, the lights flashed when I sprayed the door handles. I will have to pay closer attention to that next time.

I noticed the doors locking and unlocking when hand washing my car, just with the water not me touching it. Have not noticed it in a carwash, but the car is running, so that might overide the external lock/unlock touch control.

You must have the FOB on you (in range) when washing the car?

yep if you have the FOB in your pocket when washing the car and touch the doors... mirror area with water / power wash the doors will lock and unlock.

I've also accidentally opened the trunk with the FOB in my pocket and engaged the doors to lock. doesn't take a lot of pressure for the buttons to press if they are hit just so by something else in your pocket. I think it can confuse the car a bit lol.

So I'm not so sure it would be water unless there's a major gap for water to get into but even then.. the vents are not in a vital area over electronics. and what is electronic is sealed up pretty good.

Use of FOB holster

I bought a couple of the fob 'holsters' that were mentioned when the Mustang first began to be delivered. A lot of unintentional button pushing when the fob was is their pocket. The fob cover is thin enough to still be put in your pocket...but the material is just thick enough to prevent an unwanted activation. Since I have had the covers...I have never had the fob buttons activate by accident.

I had a slightly different problem. I washed my car this last weekend and when I went to start it after washing I has no visual on the radio screen. Not even my backup camera would come on (the sound of the sensors still worked though). I left it overnight and the next morning it was back to normal.

Unless you opened your fuse box and sprayed it directly with a hose you're good to go I'd say.

Imagine those who leave their cars outside in Seattle, or Florida during the summer. If Ford designed a car that when heavy water hit it had electronic problems then we're all about to part of a class action lawsuit.

Now however, I have noticed that after it in heavy rain some of the sensors do act up.
