This may be simple for some but for me I'm at a road block. My new head unit only has one channel sub woofer output (one RCA only). My Rockford Fosgate single 10" powered sub box has 2 RCA inputs or 2 speaker line inputs 4 wire. How do I connect this without losing any signal strength and or amp output?

take your choice on which channel you connect the rca cable too, if it makes you feel better, you could get rca y adaptor to connect to both channels, but it's not necessary

The subwoofer is mono, and you'll get the same low end from either channel; there's really no reason to image sound at that frequency range. Use either one, it won't matter.

So what your saying is since the amps right and left channels are wired inside mono to one speaker then a single sub channel input to the amp will still give full power to the single sub?

I'm confused, why then don't they just have one input then if 2 channels are not needed to run one speaker?

Head units typically have stereo RCA outputs hence the stereo RCA inputs on the sub amp, but you can definitely run a mono signal to the amp and be just fine.

If you get a Y adapter you can sum the signal in the amp and increase output by 3dB., you can use less gain on the amp now for the same volume, ( better signal to noise ratio this way)

To expound on this, you're not really carrying power on the RCA cable. If your sub is a powered subwoofer you're getting power externally and the RCA cable is just carrying signal at a given level.

Stereo hookups are useful for imaging but that's not really an issue with a subwoofer as generally bass signals will be carried on both L and R channels.
