Agreed on the one with the breather. It connects the clean and dirty sides with check valves and helps eliminate crank case pressure under boost.

Another bonus with the breather is that none of the crank case vapors are pulled back into the intake stream. Absolutely no chance of blow-by fouling the intake. I would expect to it to be very important to ensure that the catch can and breather filter are emptied regularly and not clogged. Am I understanding this correctly?

You can also spend 1/10th the $ and just put a pair of valve cover breathers on

I'm Boosted on a Whipple and I have a passenger side catch can installed. Should I also run the breather setup as well?

I switched to just breathers on my boosted set up.

Breathers? As in two? One on each side?
Yep just two of those basic AutoZone breathers. I've tried a few variants of catch cans. And they all work well. Nothing against any type of set up.

some people have issues with saturating the breathers with oil and then it subsequently sprays oil in the engine bay. It's never happened to me. I can see it happening if you constantly do hard pulls.

i clean them every month or so.

I haven't seen any oil in mine

I can smell it a little bit after a pull

I want to wrap a paper towel around them to see what it picks up

ok thanks. I’ll probably stay with the catch can for the time being and check it at the end of each driving day.
