Who like me is actually excited about the Ecoboost engine? I don't think too many have ordered but thought it would be an interesting subject for discussion...

Don't get me wrong, the V8 is awesome, far more suited to the Mustang & in a perfect world, I would have one, but for me personally the Ecoboost was the obvious choice - the V8 would be too much for a daily drive & not far off twice the cost to run.

I know this may be viewed as sad but gunna say it anyway - I'm eager to see what the real world mpg is like for the UK...my daily commute at the moment is 90 miles, 95% of which is motorway.

Am I being too ambitious in expecting 35+mpg??? On a really sensible day (of which I'm sure there won't be many), could I average nearer 40?

I read a report on a US site recently that said they managed around 35mpg with cruise control on (that's over 40mpg when converted to UK). Seems promising!

For me, its about the car and not just the engine. Always wanted a Mustang first and foremost and when I decided to go for it (which was a snap decision) I wasn't even sure what engines we were getting. My first choice was the EB.

I'm down for a V8 however. I don't have a big commute and realistically I won't use it every day anyway.

No idea about mpg, however I do drive like an old woman so I'm hopeful I may see high twenties on occasions!

Me personally would love to go for the V8, however it wouldn't be wise I'm doing 50 miles round trip for work if I had a job down the road it would be the v8. The MPG on the ecoboost manuel I would say around the 35mpg on motorway driving after a few thousand miles might just squeeze a little more but I think that will be it's best. Always wanted a mustang plus you have maperformance that can push the Ecoboost to 420 HP now that's going to be fun :)

Yep, would have chosen a V8 in an ideal world, but it's more about the car for me.

Could have gone for the V8, but I really wanted a convertible mustang, and couldn't justify the additional ÂŁ4k+ for the V8 version, especially when the EB has plenty enough power for my daily driver!

I also choose the EB over the GT. I would love the GT as a weekend car. But it's going to be a daily driver, the tank lasts for 300km and when we travel that would be really annoying. Also, the EB is a bit lighter on the front. And it just offers a bigger bang for the buck...
And to be honest, I really like the EB engine turbo feel. The torque at the bottom revs where I mostly am, it just fits me better. I have a 1.6 180HP Ecoboost in my current focus and I love that engine. If I imagine it 2 times more powerful, it was the obvious choice.

And last but not least, I do not mind certain people disrespecting it as !not a true Mustang". To me a true Mustang is the one that puts the smile on your face.

Hope you don't mind I'm posting here though I'm not from the UK.

Of course not buddy, always good to get feedback from EU folks, it's a different world in the US in terms of cars so I always prefer the information from the EU!

That's a good point on the tank range, I believe the Ecoboost has a 59L/13UK gallon tank so range should easily be 400+miles/maybe up to 650km! So probably about double the GT in some cases.

Soo impressive for a car of this nature.

I chose the EB for the economy - but it still has 317bhp for goodness sake! My main commute is 75 miles each way, 70 on motorways & 5 miles in traffic. I had a V8 Camaro 15 years ago that would usually do around 26 - 27 mpg on this kind of journey, but could get 30 on a "gentle run".

I reckon that 34mpg or more is doable on my journey, as there is a fair amount of traffic. I reckon a steady cruise at 75mpg should give 38mpg or even more - have the auto on order. The price list shows 41.5 for the manual & 39.2 for the auto as "extra urban" - I reckon I should get around 10%to 15% less than that on my main commute, and then less for the local stuff.

the V8 around town is a killer though - as low as 16mpg by all accounts. And "rapid acceleration" also guzzles the juice!

Suppose any car that you rapid acceleration is a gas guzzler.
When I had my focus RS to 400 bhp, driving it like I stole it, it would register 6 MPG lol
All depends on the right foot

That's why I choose the EB aswel, how often can you really use the V8 power,
317bhp is enough for me, on my 14 mile commute of which 10 miles is 40 mph average speed cameras.

I have a base eco auto. Steady 70mph=32mpg. Easy driving, average mpg=28.5 and spirited driving with more arou town =26.

I have a 2007 GT500 with over 800 rwhp.

The eco is a far superior DD in every way. The biggest difference is that when driving it, the sense is that it is 25 percent smaller and weighs at least 200 pounds less, just at the nose.

Nice :) 32mpg should translate to high 30's for us...

Is that using cruise control? Or a steady foot?

Assuming that cruise control is standard on the base Ecoboost model? Don't think the adaptive cruise control is but hoping normal CC is!

Cruise control, there are a few more tweaks that will net you a few more MPG like lowering springs, and a tune if you so desire. A good CAI should also help.
