I'm running Unleashed 93 custom tune. I just this week switched from my summer tune to my winter tune now that high temps have dropped into the 40s here in NJ. So Torrie does account for this and there's info on the winter tune in the Unleashed thread in this forum.
I think he said switch in the 50s...

That was the only thing that pissed me off when I purchased his tune. I found out by accident that I needed to switch to the winter tune. Last year there was no info in his emails or website when to switch or the reason to switch. Think I was driving around for a couple of weeks in "winter" weather... I was not happy.

Only when I asked did he fess up and say the summer tune messed up a couple of cars and he created the winter tune. I was like "f..k, really?" But you don't find that on the forums anyplace (or I've not seen it).

That really got me thinking about tuners in general and what info is out there...

Not bashing unleashed... love the summer tune... been on the stock tune for over a month now... not sure if I will flash to the winter tune or go Ford Performance and sell my sct.

Have to admit, I hate flashing it so many times a year... when seasons change and when I take the car in for oil change/maintenance.

I'm not paid by Livernois but do suggest them based on my experience and all the research I did vetting them out before I tuned (i spent about 30 hours over a couple of weeks trying to find any dirt, reading all kinds of forums and posts with F-150's, SHO's, Focus ST's, Fiesta ST's etc.), you might want to consider them. Depends on weather your in warranty or how much into the warranty. If you at 25k, the FP supplemental warranty is only good for another 11k, so in that case it's not really worth it on warranty basis alone.

If your in warranty the FP tune might make more sense at least until it expires, but if your not Livernois has a spotless track record (20 years experience to boot), a working relationship with Ford as an OE tester and also previous joint R&D partner with FP, a 36,000 sq foot facility, multiple dynos...http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/about

There are faster tunes, no doubt about that, but how many other than FP or LMS have that kind of a spotless track record? We're talking a team of people with an active working relationship with Ford and FP...it's really worth a look.

I don't have summer/winter tunes. I have one tune that I run year around. I've did it for almost 2 years and 57k miles. :)

Here's part of my conversation with them regarding temperature compensation (I tasked them about this way back when I first tuned, but couldn't find the e-mails so I just asked again):

Are there any concerns with running your stage 3 93 tune during cold weather? There's a big thread on some one who just blew an engine when weather turned cold with and "Unleashed" tuned car.

I know you guys are in Michigan, I would very much hope you have extensively tested in cold weather. Here in Ohio we are now seeing 27F morning temps and I just want to make I can safely run the 93 tune down to -20F which about the coldest temps we see.

I spoke to someone this morning about this on our website and you should be fully able to run the tune without a problem. Some guys drop down to 91 tune with 93 octane for the winter but this tune is meant to be a year long tune.

That's, that's good to know. What temperatures is it safe to run down to? There were a few people asking for a number, was curious how cold you've tested to.

Replicating a neg 20 would be difficult, but generally speaking sub-freezing temps are just fine.

Out of curiosity, do you know what Ford or Ford Performance tests to? I know you guys work with Ford as an OE tester. I also know you said you use the factory compensation maps for altitude, so would that hold true for temperature compensation? This might explain why increasing boost is dangerous, I would imagine higher than factory boost levels nullify some of those critical tables in extreme environments.

Correct, unfortunately I do not have access to their information. 99.99% of all information that we learn through testing with Ford is classified.
By classified he means NDA (non-disclosure agreement), it's proprietary and they are not aloud to legally release said information, this is fairly common in any industry (mine included, which is industrial electrical engineering). I have come to understand that both Ford Performance and LMS use very similar methodologies, the difference is that FP's tunes must run on 91 AND be 50 state emissions legal (part of their requirements), so their 91 is not quite as aggressive as LMS 91, but fairly close (around 20~25hp) likely due to those factors. FP tunes also cannot benefit or use an upgraded down pipe. The big advantage and appeal is the warranty if your not over or near 36k.

That's why I said depends on shop. Your Tune+, so given Adams reputation I would expect nothing less!

I'll more than likely go with the FP tune since it includes the auto calibration as well.

If I were to not go FP, the only other tuner I'd consider is Tune+. His attitude and forum conduct has kept me from doing business with him though. Unleashed is always professional... plus they use SCT, which, I'll admit, does not matter as much as I thought it would (thought I would have multiple tunes from multiple vendors at this point).

The other thing is, when I was looking for a car, I only wanted a vert that went 0-60 below 6 seconds. That was it... the FP tune will give me that. Unleashed gave me 5.3. Stock tune is 6.1.

If I wanted a race car, I'd get a GT and put a blower/turbo on that....

I can respect that, but what do you mean by "His attitude and forum conduct has kept me from doing business with him."? Seems a bit contradictory to the sentence prior where you say Tune+ is the only other tuner you'd consider. Just curious if I"m misunderstanding what your trying to get at. If it's "flame war" material, you could just PM me your reasoning.

No flame war... tune+ is a great tuner. I'd recommend him.

And I'll readily say that there is NO OTHER vendor who have taught me more about car tunes than tune+.

BUT.... I've seen him "get into it" with other vendors and forum members every now and again. His attitude and conduct is off at times -- what I would consider unprofessional. Downright off-putting to me.

I can separate my "feelings or thoughts" about someone and their "ability to do what I need them to do." If there were no unleashed, I would have went with tune+. I thought tune+ was a slightly better tuner but I still went with unleashed because I thought I would have better communication/service. I failed there.

If I had to recommend a tuner, I'd recommend tune+/cobb... and I could recommend unleashed, if someone really wanted to use an SCT. Cobb seems like a better device to me though.

I think if someone had a lot of mods to do, there is no way in hell I'd recommend anyone but Tune+.

So I got a 91 Unleashed tune a little while ago, I never got any other file. I just assumed he doesn't do summer winter anymore when you're not revising the tune to the edge?

I love my tune with Adam, and his helpfulness with any questions, so not bashing him at all, but in general there are no checks and balances with tuners. If you don't know what to look for they could tune every car the exact same. Now obviously you can tell if they rake the time and answer questions, multiple revisions, that they probably aren't, but what's to say they aren't since we can't see any changes. Just playing devil's advocate here as I love my tune and my choice of tuner!

You won't know unless you ask. unleashed is great at answering questions.

If there is another tune you should have, he will provide it for free and quickly.

You should ask ASAP.

Every time i email Torrie about the winter tune he asks for a data log in the weather. I send him a log he checks it out and says i'm good to go just watch the fuel pressure if i get on it. If the pressure gets below 15MPA during WOT i will cause engine damage. " But i don't want to cause engine damage thats why i ask you to send me the winter tune." After to winters in NY i still have no winter tune..so i just stay out of the bottom of the floor board with the pedal. haha

Not always that quick no. Maybe it's those 3" heels.
