I was debating getting the 2.3 for the same reason. Power loss at altitude. I currently live just under 6000ft and drive to higher elevations on the weekends. Two major things led me to order the 5.0.

The line lock feature is only available on the GT
The glorious sound of a V8

I wasnt interested in the mustang until i saw the line lock feature. Why would i buy the version of the car that doesn't have what peaked my interest in the first place? I have a drag strip that is 5 min up the highway from my house that i like to attend the test and tune nights.

Altitude power loss or not. i believe the 5.0 has more potential for me than the 2.3

The OP pointed out the 20% price difference between the EB and the GT, so add the cost of parts, labour, and a tune ontop of the GT's price premium for forced induction. Will it make a shit tonne more power? Yep. Will it cost? Yep.
20%? Is it that much without options? I haven't actually looked enough to notice, but that is a big increase between the two upgrades.

The 2.3L will be able to handle plenty, but there's little doubt overall, it's not likely to beat the 5L w/o suffering terribly in areas as important as driving capability.

Actually instead of comparing old 5.0 numbers you should be comparing the Boss 302 since that should be closer to the new engine upgrades.
I think this is really important. Ford is promising an HP increase in the 5.0, and the Roadrunner package is already worked out. They may take a little money out of it, and so far we are seeing last year's GT intake, but if we get the Boss cams and heads it could be a pretty sweet motor.

And, if you live at 5,000 feet, you can always throw a blower on it!:headbang:

Provided you have another $5,000.00 sitting around with nothing to do and you can install it yourself...

Honestly, that or a turbo(best option) would be the answer... not everyone can afford it though, to be sure.

Lets do more hypothetical math & conjecture...

A V6 ecoboost @ 370hp minus 10%(Driveline loss) = 333hp
A V8 Coyote @ 435hp minus 25%(Driveline 10% + 15% alt. loss) = 326.25hp

If indeed these #'s are close, Id sure lean towards something force-fed up high..

I would not trust the dealers info either. Especially considering YESTERDAY my dealer told me he would give me a call as soon as he can place my order haha. He was a little embarrassed when I told him order banks were open, what the car weights, what it will cost with and without x-plan and when job 1 starts. All thanks to this forum!

Just a thought though, if it happens to be correct, how happy would those people that have already ordered the EB be if they found out they were going to take delivery of a 370 HP monster! Haha. Talk about best day ever. I hope the EB does churn out that kind of power. As long as my GT can defend itself of course.

Oh I know, and I am a GT guy anyways so it doesn't effect me. Just saying, how happy would those dude be? Order a car off of a 305 HP estimate and then it shows up with 360+. Not realistic, but an interesting thought.

I'm now thinking who will be 1st to get a new V6 and either make it a 3.5L lookalike to the degree it has turbos and an inter-cooler, etc. and/or who will be 1st to actually swap in a 3.5L TT from an F-150, Taurus, Explorer, whatever...

For that matter, someone may choose the 2.7L TT which would also make well over 300whp with very little help, while adding torque we're all generally looking for.

If I go Mustang again(and it's still probable, though the 1/2 ton looks good), it's GT for me, automatic, probably convertible. That said, the turbocharged options are almost endless, particularly since systems for the 5L are also available and we know the last V6 got a turbo added here and there. Very popular, indeed.

So, it looks like my 330hp figure for the EB wont happen..

-With that said, the 5.0 would have 12-16% over the 4cyl.

-Still not a huge advantage; having twice the cylinders and displacement
Final numbers are out,
with driveline loss, EB = 290 GT = 326 (driveline + elevation)
Thats approx 12% difference in hp at 5000' elevation

-These values are derived by me and are not official,
nor accurate in any manner

That would be the case, but thanks to variable valve timing and precise computer control of everything, the computer can adjust to those kinds of variables. So both vehicles will perform similarly at the majority of altitudes.
And aside from Denver, where the hell else is this comparison relevant??

Here, in SoCal where I live (Los Padres National Forest). Also right at 6000'.
