EB PP wheels, recoating question

Had a question for those knowledgeable about these things...

If you were to get the black PP wheels, can those things be stripped and then either used as is or re-coated to say a gunmetal?

Not sure what's under the black paint and then wondered if anything special had to be done if you had someone strip it and powder coat it back and would that affect anything with the wheels, sensors, balancing.

Powdercoating involves baking the wheel so the tire and sensor would need to be removed. The wheels can be painted fairly easily.

Plastidip them with their gunmetal color, then use their clearcoat on top of it. That way you can always peel off the color if needed, and the best part is you can touch them up when you hit curbs.

Also, on a side note, do you know of any places that do the 3m protective sheets on cars around here that do a nice job and are certified?

We have an Alloy Wheel repair truck that does all the wheel refinishing and repairs at my dealership, and also we are a 3M training dealership for the clear protection. I'm not sure if they do outside dealership work for the 3M but I can ask the Alloy Wheel as he offered to refinish my wheels.

I would be surprised if it did. I haven't used it myself but my brother has a small mountain of plastidip cans left over from when he did his wrangler wheels.



Generally what I've heard , is the more coats of plastdip, the better it looks and the easier it is to peel off when you want to.

According to this video, entire car coated 6 times weighs half a pound.

So I doubt it will add more than a ounce to 4 wheels alone.
