Not sure who posted this tip on here but, thank you, whoever you were. Was searching for an easy way to remove the chrome front pony emblem and replace with the black version. This way took all of 5-10 minutes. I masked off the front with some printer paper just to help catch any shavings. I then took the new emblem and rested it on top of the factory chrome one. Align them as best as you can. Mark the location of the pins. I then began drilling through the emblem at the marked locations. Started with a very small bit, maybe a 3/32 and worked my way up to a 1/4” bit. Carefully only drilling through the face of the emblem. Once through, the pins just fall down the back. Didn’t notice there was a bottom pin by the legs of the horse as the new emblem didn’t have this pin. No biggie because with the top three drilled the bottom one just snapped off anyways. Thanks again to whoever posted this method. Super quick and easy.

Definitely an easy way to remove the emblem...but feel its kinda a waste of a good emblem doing it that way.

Hi,

I've got a couple of questions :

Once retrieved, can the original securing clips (whatever they look like) be reused from the old badge to the new ?

My replacement badge (OE ford) is concave on the back so it doesn't really look suitable for use with 3M tape, have others had this issue ?

I was thinking of simply putting a bit of super glue / Cyanoacrylate (the gel type as its easy and less messy to use) on the pins before fitment - has anyone tried that ?

Cheers,

Which pony did you purchase? Is that gloss black or something else? Looks great - looking for one for my magnetic GT.

In the UK, OE badges are quite reasonably priced and cheaper than aftermarket !

Not sure if it’s the same in the USA, but it might be worth checking :like:

What i did for mine before i bought my cervinis was i just plasti dipped the pony to make it black (a whole lot cheaper than buying a black pony badge) plus it was super easy to sell since all i had to do was remove the dip before selling.

A method I did. I wrapped a screwdriver in some tape so I don't scratch the grille, then I pulled out on the tail with the screwdriver and someone slipped a shoelace behind and pulled out while i pushed in on grille. Had to do it twice since the tail ripped off (thanks to my neighbor for coming up with this.

I don't know if it different on my car since I have the Roush Phase 2 kit, but I was able to remove the top radiator shroud and reach right in there and break off the tabs.

I relocated the pony to the garage wall.

This worked great. I've been trying to figure out how to put on a black pony emblem for a year without dropping the front bumper. I did it in like 20 minutes this way. Works perfectly. I drilled the top 3. Missed 2 on them and only got half of the pin. I just broke it off the rest of the way including the bottom pin.I used a pony emblem from cjponyparts.com that had 3m adhesive on the back. It covers it all up anyways.

21 gt with the grill shutters behind front grill making it impossible to change the pony emblem from the back.

Yeah, my woman's 21 has grill shutters, WTF are those even for?
My 20 doesn't have them.
Anyway, we pried up on the tail with a tiny blade screwdriver until I could get a plastic trim removal tool in there.
Ended up breaking off the tail and was able to then pry the rest of the emblem off.
Not suitable for resale at that point. 🤷🏼‍♂️
But our new gloss black emblem had the locator pins and tons of 3m tape. We didn't use the pin retainers for obvious reasons.
But it's not going anywhere.
