Just get a Borla touring or S-Type exhaust. No Drone.

I had the S-Type exhaust on my 2013 GT. Sounded incredible, zero drone at any RPM... Exactly as advertised.

I have yet to play with any aftermarket exhaust options on my Mustang, but I had the perfect setup on my 2007 Corvette: American Racing headers and mid-pipe to Corsa Sport mufflers. Very tame in 6th gear cruising on the highway, but sounded like it wanted to eat children at wide open throttle. I have zero tolerance for drone and this was perfect.

The Vette is a different car obviously, but it is smaller in length (closer to the pipes) and was pretty terrible in the sound insulation department. I would say in order to avoid drone with headers your mufflers have to be more of the reserved, higher toned, exotic sounding variety like the Corsas. Anything with a louder, deep tone is going to drone I suspect.

Anyway my point being a similar setup would be even better on the Mustang than it was on the Corvette.

SW h-pipe ... lots and lots of drone. It was supposed to go away - but it didn't ... :(

While cruising at 6th gear in the low RPM's, or droning all around?

All around 1,600-2,100 r/pm ... combine that with a 3.55 auto and your head explodes after 30 minutes on the highway.

Not to mention that the SW system doesn't fit the convertible but that's a different story.

I agree, most people complaining of drone have no idea what real drone is. Take a ride in a Fox body mustang with 2-chamber flowmasters, lol. You will get a quick lesson in what drone really means.

<--- drove Fox body with 2 chambers for 2 years. My head still hasn't recovered. 2000rpm was drone zone

To add to that, I've never in over 30 yrs of messing with cars heard a drone in anything other that a chambered muffler. If you aren't running a chambered muffler, you don't have drone. Simple as that.

most people confuse drone for being able to hear the exhaust...where as drone is if you stuck your head in a large bell and some rang the bell with a big hammer...

so if you hear the exhaust does not necessarily mean it's "droning"... there is a difference between sound and tone vs constant echoing annoying hum in the cabin driving you insane.
Drone is a harmonic resonance caused by the system's vibration, and you can definitely tell the difference between drone and the exhaust's actual sound. I get it around 1400 - 1600 RPM where the engine is more or less lugging. Gear selection is your friend.... or just crack a window.

I've heard lots of people state they've had drone with their H pipe Stainless Works Cat back but we've had very minimal with the X pipe setup. I've experienced all types of drone, but nothing can compare to our Lightning! lol

Anyways, Headers our going to increase cabin noise, but drone.... not so much. You'll here your engine a little bit more as well. If you get headers, SW, Kooks or ARH would be the only choices out there I would actually choose from. I know there's only one other set really available but many more will emerge.

Personally, I really like the FRPP setup in regards to tone and VERY minimal drone, some might say no drone. Pair that with one of the 3 brand headers and I honestly think they'll sound incredible. We still haven't put a set of headers on, just been way too busy but we're currently running the FRPP sports, I can honestly say there is no drone.

ahh yes, Foxbody 5.0 with headers, h-pipe and 2 chambers....THAT is a sweet sweet sound! To my ears anyways! But.....I also enjoy a cranked Fender Twin so, I might not be the best guy to talk to about whats loud or disturbing to the ears.
