Watched "Bullitt" the other night and for first time noted what sounds like tons of double clutching during chase scene. Driven manual most of my life, never double clutched. Wonder if any advice out there from aficionados of high rev engines on getting the most fun out of driving this car.

Never hurts to double clutch on downshifts if you are slowing rapidly or the revs will be high in your new gear. Typically I wait until the last moment to put the car into the lower gear so the transmission doesn't have to work too hard. I would never double clutch on an upshift.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!
The car you "HEARD" in Bullitt was NOT a Mustang. Just part of Hollywood movie magic.
In Bullitt the Mustang sound was dubbed in and came from a non-syncro 5 sp GT40 to make it sound more racy. That car/GT40 had to be double clutched....thus the sound of double cluthing.....

The sound didn't have to come from a Mustang to apply to mustang owners, it's entertainment in any case. The movie was made back in 1968, not a whole lot of magic going on.

Its not needed. If you have time to double clutch then you are shifting too slow. Heel-toe downshifting is a more important technique IMO.

The left foot has nothing else to do.

What do you mean? I'm just saying you only need to press the clutch once. Double clutching would take too long. Heel toe downshifting is more important to practice.

I'm very clear on what you think. :)

What I mean is that there are lots of circumstances where I double-clutch on downshifts and I disagree with your opinion that it slows anything down. There's no reason to down shift three times with fast clutch pedal movement if you are down shifting from 5th to 2nd, for instance.

Using heel and toe to get the revs up can also help synchronize the speed of the transmission parts if the shifter is in neutral and the clutch is out when you use the heel and toe technique. It's a way of putting less stress on the transmission that doesn't slow you down.
