Ever since I got my 22 Mustang EB with the MT-82, I hear a lot of clunking noises (I think from driveline). Supposedly since it's 2 piece.

When I push the clutch in sometimes I'll hear a "duh-duh-duh-duh" sound, or when I release the clutch after a shift.

When the car is in neutral and I turn it off, I hear it too. I wonder if the driveshaft is sort of a culprit for the MT82 having issues.

Is this driveline noise normal? Also sorry if this has been answered, I couldn't find much.

If you're in neutral and not moving, it's not the drive shaft.
My guess is something in the clutch/throw out bearing.
It's a '22 and should have a warranty, take it in.

Oh yeah that should be obvious since no power is sent to driveline in neutral…

I’ve taken the car in like 3 times to different dealers and they always say nothing is wrong with it. Told them clutch makes that clunking noise as well as bad 2nd and 3rd gear shifts. Shifts are better nowadays with 14k miles and with new fluid but still get bad shifts here and there.

If the transmission is damaged after warranty ends but I’ve noted the above, would I be able to still get it fixed “under” warranty?

The first place to look is your driving skills. Even experienced manual transmission drivers can have a problem with these cars, because there is 0 feed-back from the clutch pedal.

So it just may be that it's you. Plus the fact that drivetrain clunks and whirrs are normal. And since you've had it looked at by 3 dealerships, Occam's Razor suggests it is your driving.

Focus on being smooth, and see if that changes anything.

Always can improve, I’ll have to try harder.

Problem is the rattle/shudder when pushing the clutch in isn’t anything skill related. I’m just pushing the clutch pedal and hear it. Also hear it when I’m driving slower. I’ve driven 3 other new 2022 mustangs (GT and ecoboosts) and they all drove great (no weird noises or hard shifting), and never felt this in other manual cars.

2nd has a weird clunk to it sometimes and the 3rd gear nibble many have talked about. May get an MGW shifter, new fluid has helped but not all the way.

Do you guys have any of the weird transmission noises?

Once again, noise when depressing the clutch pedal is most likely throw out bearing/slave or clutch related.
I can't comment on any perceived or real transmission noises or problems on your car. I don't know your skill level or shifting habits and it's not like the manual transmissions in these cars don't have a few documented issues.

Well I’ll keep those in mind if anything gets worse, thanks for the help.

My 22 Ecoboost had a clunk from the rear when stopping and starting or even when getting on and off the throttle under like 45 mph.

Dealer replaced drivers side axle, then called and said some noise is normal but this fixed the majority of it. I picked the car up and that fixed almost all of it but there is still weird driveline noises with this car I haven’t had in any of my other 11 manual transmission cars I’ve owned over the years.

getting a shifter will only give the dealer something to blame it on. don't mod your car to fix problems unless you know what the problem is.

Yeah I've had very similar noises, when I’m on the highway the car is great (no noises, higher gears shift well, etc.). I’m just going to assume it’s how these cars are and avoid them in the future/sell before warranty expires.

I’m still pretty set on a Corvette C5-7, lightweight and more than enough power, wonder if there’s anything similar.

I don’t think I’ll ever figure out what it is, and that’s why I’ve been hesitant to buy the shifter. MT82 2nd/3rd gear issues are well known and never really fixed by dealerships. Clunking noises have been checked and dealers say no problem. Maybe I’ll have to check the transmission out on my own or take the risk with the shifter (shifter isn’t too related to the clunking anyway, unless a throw out bearing is causing some issue. But then again it’s like 1/5 times and seems to be the nature of the car).

I get it, I really like the car but unfortunately in the first year of ownership it has given me reasons to question how long it will hold up. My last car was a 2016 Focus ST traded it at 116k miles and it felt tighter and quieter than the Mustang does at 20k miles.

Dealers in my area are horrible as well which makes the ownership experience lackluster.

so lets pretend you continue on modding something when you know something isn't right.

you get the shifter and your tranny dies in 20K miles. now the dealer is like "WTF is up with this shifter? warranty denied".

"its not too related..." so its related in some way. this is my seasoned advice watching companies deny legit warranty claims for bullshit reasons and knowing ford is already yup to its eyeballs in poop trying to fix the end results of their lack of quality control.

I'm getting ready to do the big bertha bolt kit and bushing inserts for my diff with torn bushings. why? because i fully understand the problem and the fix and am willing to incur any of the blowback because any of that is better than dealing with my local shitshow dealer and ford as they currently are. its also a very simple problem.

you're dealing with unknowns and introducing another variable into the equation.
i think its a bad move.

word to the wise is sufficient.

Makes sense, my transmission isn’t bad really, I think it’s just noisy. Shifts into 2nd are good or okay/not fun, but nothing really messed up - shifting just leaves a lot to be desired. I don’t think this transmission will screw up within 45k more miles for me, but yeah I’ll be careful or just get a different car soon. I really loved this car when I first got it, but I’m getting a little bored of the Ecoboost nowadays.

Feel like used cars are worth it not only from being a lot cheaper (apart from last few years), but also you can mod and fix things instead of working with and relying on an annoying warranty. If this car was used, it’d be driving great after I modded, but I’m too concerned about the warranty and all.

Have you had anyone else drive it while you are riding shotgun? It will let you know if it is your driving style. I am going to throw in clutch issues as your problem.
Does it shift fine when not running? Is the clunk in the clutch something you feel in your foot when engine is running only or always?
Just tossing out ideas.
