Hey all,

I am sure all you audiophiles know that enclosures make a huge difference in the way a speaker emits sound. Especially low and mid end bass.

My questions is.... has anyone on the forum ever made a speaker enclosure for the doors?

I'm currently in the process of doing my audio upgrade. In fact I am in the doors today. While there is enough space to do it since the window doesn't go behind the woofer, it would still be really tough to get an enclosure in there.

Would you need a lot of space... I was thinking something like in the drawing below. Making a wooden enclosure that is .5inch thick with a 5inch diameter that is one piece with the adapter for the speaker.

Excuse my drawing skills. Hope it makes sense.

I would be curious to how a wood enclosure would hold up inside the door. Moisture may be rough on it. I once used a product made of foam to something similar. I taped it up with a duct tape alternative to improve it's rigidness. Fiberglass would have better to reinforce it The product was bought from Crutchfield. I want to say the brand name was XTC. Not even a clue it the volume was closed to proper.

you could do this but to be honest if you were to sound deaden the door really well you will get great mid bass. Most full range drivers are designed for a free air application. You would want to check with your speaker manufacture first to make sure they are designed to be in an enclosure. The other problem you have is that the box would be in an area in the door where it could get wet.
