... He took a stock OPG and then an MMR and held them them both by his side. Standing over a wood floor he dropped them both from around 3ft in the air. The stock OPG shattered (MMR was fine). I then offered to sacrifice mine to ensure it wasn't pre broken and it busted in half!

Now I know opg's are not meant to be dropped but damn! If a small drop will bust the gear 600+hp boosted coyotes are sitting on a ticking time bomb with the stock gears.

Thought I would share; just another confirmation I made the right decision.
This test would make a great youtube video. Anyone still have their old OEM OPG or crank sprocket ?

Make sure to do it on a wooden floor. Where would a person have to go to find a wooden floor now adays?

So just finished getting my ride back from the OPG and TS being installed. I was talking with the owners of the shop and he was telling how fragile the stock OPG really is. I was already sold on installing them and in fact all I paid him for was labor but he asked if I wanted to see how fragile they really were.

Sorry but I'm call BS on this one. A 3 ft drop with GLASS gears probably wouldn't break. I'm mean seriously, if you believe this crap I got a bridge to sell you. They'd break the first time you hit the gas on a yugo if they were that fragile.

I dropped an injector on the floor and it broke. I dropped a piston on the floor and it dented and became unusable. I dropped an engine off a forklift and it cracked..

^^^THIS is enough to scare the hell out of this forum. Because of your post MyLilPony, OPGs going to be on back order for a long time. Thank God I did mine last week along with the Timing Chain Gear and Long Tube Headers. Did you get them installed in McKinney?

I have my OPGs that came out of my car last week. I do not have a wooden floor but I do have a concrete floor. I do not see any reason that MyLilPony would lie about this. He is not selling gears or installing them. People that tell lies have a motive behind their lies. I can make a video of dropping the gears in my garage. I do not know what the outcome will be. I will do it for shits and giggles. I had planned on installing the Sportline springs today but am not feeling well. But a video is not that difficult.

I don't think anyone is lying, but really that is besides the point. What does dropping the gears prove? I don't think the engineers considered surviving the drop of gears on a hard floor as a design requirement. I don't think there was any question the aftermarket gears were stronger. The only question, which hasn't changed, is what is the failure rate on modified cars. Anything else is just white noise in the debate.

Just shared my experience. Luckily I've been on forums to know everyone is a hater. Either way I saw two opg's break. Called a guy a know who did his as well to see if he has his so I can drop the drop test myself. Won't be on a wood floor though since dropping a chunk of metal on my hand scraped floors would having me sleeping on the couch. Wonder if the west coast guy knows what those are. I am sure they have them somewhere in those 1000 sqft shacks they all live in out there.

I actually had a shop in Mansfield do the swap. I'll be using True Streets dyno hopefully Friday though since it is so much closer for tuning. I am putting the PC on Thursday; want to have it done before cars and coffee in August. Hoping for 650ish, just enough to kill a hellcat that has been running around up here.

Like I said, I know they are not meant to be dropped. And they both cracked on the weak points between the teeth further proving that point...Just thought it was interesting....considering the stress they are under, I wanted something that could stand up to whatever I tossed at it.
