Do you regret not replacing the CUP 2s

Like others have said this is a track car and that is why the Mach1 HP comes equiped with the cup2's. I still have them and look forward to enjoying them again in the right conditions. The only reason I went with the conti extreme contacts as a primary tire was due to possibly considering it as a daily driver.

The one thing I miss the most with the cup2's is feedback you get in the steering. Hope this helps!

This ^^^. When I bought my PP2 I drove straight to Discount Tire and got Hankook RS4's. RS4's are still pretty darn good for handling and will out last pretty much any other extreme performance summer tire. When my Mach1 comes I'm using a set of GTPP1 wheels with PS4S for the street and saving my SC2's for the track (along with my Apex track setup). Depending on how long the PS4S' last I'll eventually sell the PP1 wheels and get another track setup then figure out a street tire for my M1HP wheels.

Exactly, sell them once you get the car and buy PS4S or something else. You will spend 500-600 after you cash the Cup2's.

Yeah, driving on them in the rain can be a bit sketchy. But you must use caution for sure. It really tests your nerves and keeps you in tune with the road. And the complaints are very valid under the extreme conditions that they are used in. But there's just that one "Sweet Spot", The track or the canyons where they really do their job. We have a "Track Day coming up on April 8th at Willow Springs and I cannot wait to see the different tires that the drivers have selected as their "Weapon of Choice". It's like going to the fights and there's the reigning champ versus the new guy. That's what track days remind me of when you have different tires out there. But we will see. I'll keep you posted.

Based upon my experience, It depends on how you use the car and your driving skills.
Weekend fun in the sun drives - no problem (unless it rains).
Daily driver - really sketchy in the rain and temps below 50 degrees F and you won't get more than 4,000 to 5,000 miles from the rears.
As long as it's sunny and warm you'll be fine for a while.

I second your insight. It is a true "Driver's Tire". And the more skill you have, the more you can really push the Cup 2's to their limits.

Now that just yesterday I put my Project-6GR wheels on that had Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, I can say I’m glad I’m able to have both. I haven’t used the Sport Cup 2’s since I got the car last fall, but it’s finally starting to warm up a bit so I made the switch from snow tires to summer’s. The MPS4S is definitely more daily friendly, as they’re good in the rain and are quite comfortable, they have good performance, and they do give a bit of road feel which is nice when you want to play around with it. The Cup 2’s are just a different animal though. Way more road feel and control, and every little movement of the wheel has you darting back and forth, which is pretty fun. They tram line pretty bad, but that’s just what you get for having such responsive tires. Personally, I don’t mind it because it’s just part of the experience and it’s cool to have that much feel of the road. I wouldn’t want them as my only tires, though, especially because I wouldn’t want to commute regularly with them if it’s raining, and they don’t last all that long. If I could only have one set of tires, I would probably pick the 4S just because they’re better for a daily driver and last longer, I wouldn’t want to be paying for new tires so often. But that’s personal preference, if money is no issue, the feel of the Sport Cup 2’s is just more engaging. I’m glad I’m able to keep both options, so during the dry weeks I can switch to the Cup 2’s while still getting the good daily characteristics of the 4S’s.

Based on the wisdom you imparted detailing your Cup2 experiences, I decided to change to the the PS4S tire. For my type of driving and limited skill level/track experience it seemed the best choice.

Now on to the another question that I could use your help and your comments/suggestions. I located a tire shop with a touchless tire/wheel change system and subsequently had the new tires installed on the Mach1. The shop had 4.9 google review rating with over 600 reviews. I picked it up and everything looked good until I arrived back home and washed it. Discovered that they must have use a screwdriver or metal pry tool to forcibly remove the old wheel weights. They actually chipped out the paint along a 3" straight line on each wheel while removing the weights. Problem is that the location is in front area of the wheel and can be readily seen even though its on the hub and not on the face of the wheel. I have not contacted the tire shop yet. I know it is minor but it bothers me to see the paint damage on a brand new car.

So this isn't normal or acceptable during a tire change to have such damage? Correct? What would you recommend as a repair to bring back to an acceptable level. Can the wheels be touched up without going route of entire wheel refinish. Photo below is similar to damage on all four wheels. Thanks and look forward to your comments.

It's pretty normal in my experience. Easily cosmetically repaired. It takes a special tire shop to get a $10.00 per hour employee to take extra care to not make a scrape or two. It's the world we live in IMO. Give it a little touch up and you'll never see it after a while...

Agreed with the above post. Every time I’ve gotten tires installed my wheels always come back with at least some blemishes. It’s a job that’s rough on the wheels, and no one really cares enough to be so careful to not cause damage, it’s sad but reality. Well rated shops too, I’m talking one that works on all kinds of multi-hundred thousand exotics. They messed up a wheel pretty noticeably, but we’re quick to accept responsibility and had the brand new wheel refinished. So if I were you that would be my first course of action, to contact the shop and see if they’re willing to have it repaired. If you don’t want to go through that, you could try to find some touch up paint and just fix it yourself. It’s in a location where it’s pretty easy to do so and it’s out of the way enough where it shouldn’t be noticeable. But yeah, I know the pain of having something brand new that should be in perfect condition but it gets damaged.

I am with the others as it looks minor and not uncommon but would definitely bring it to their attention. This can easily be touched up and maybe they will credit you back some money on your tires.

You sell the Cup 2's the second you get the car and then buy the PS4S and only lose a couple hundred bucks. If you're buying two sets of tires, you're doing it wrong. Track junkies love these tires and will snag them real fast if you post them a bit under the cost of new.


Exactly the advice I was going to provide. I bought my 2019 GT350 with 1,400 miles. Since the car had not been tracked the Cup 2's were fine. Sold them easily for an excellent price and replaced with 4S's for minimal overall cost impact. Since the Cup 2's wear at a considerable rate you need to decide quickly what you want to do. Waiting can cost you a good bit.

When I had my SC2's swapped the day I got my 19 PP2 they put a small blemish on the face of the wheel. They (Discount Tire) caught it themselves and ordered a replacement wheel for me and took care of it all. One suggestion, if you know you are going to go have tires swapped maybe remove the weights yourself before you get there. Because yeah, they will just take a scraper to it generally.

They (Discount Tire) caught it themselves and ordered a replacement wheel for me and took care of it all. One suggestion, if you know you are going to go have tires swapped maybe remove the weights yourself before you get there. Because yeah, they will just take a scraper to it generally.

Thank you. This was four years ago and the local store took ownership and fixed the problem. I have nothing but good things to say about the local Discount Tire I use.

Love the cup2s. I like the feed back. The twitchiness. They feel more predictable to me. They keep you on your toes. I'm going to run them as my car not really a daily driver. Nice days only.
