Isn't it more Police sightings than it is police activity reports?

I started using it last week after hearing about it from you all. It's kinda cool, more helpful around rush hour when lots of Wazers are out and about. So makes it easier to push through traffic knowing where they've been spotted and where they haven't.

Also pretty helpful when people report things on the roadway when you come upon it and get a warning and know to be extra careful.

I've only used the nav a couple times on it, but didn't find it any more or less helpful than any other.
The issue I have with Waze is, how many of those people are doing crap on their phone in that app while they are driving? Heck they are probably the ones causing traffic to be bad.

Waze has been described as "one of the world's largest community-based traffic and navigation apps". Users report police sightings, which may or may not still be there. I'll tell you that it has saved me numerous times. Users also report hazards. For example, recently, Waze reported debris on the interstate I was traveling on. I didn't pay close attention, and a few moments later I ran over the tire treads left on the road from a recent blowout. (Now I pay closer attention to what Waze is reporting:shocked:)

The GPS is equivalent to any other GPS, but does not show a picture of the destination like Google Maps. Sometimes I use both, especially when I'm not sure of the best way to get someplace, or to a new destination. I use verbal directions from Google Maps, but I keep Waze open for verbal reports of police and more.

I ordered the NAV package for my Mustange and plan on using it for directions, but to continue to use Waze to keep me out of trouble.

You can report using only your voice. No texting involved.

I definitely do find the road hazard and police sightings useful once I hit the freeway. This week, I was driving along and the car in front of me swerved. I was following pretty close but luckily avoided the 4 - 2.5gal jugs that were sitting between the fast lane and middle lane. I quickly got the hazard entered in waze, and know it helped someone else out.

And I've been alerted to tire debris or plywood laying on the road as well. It's very helpful for that and something you'll never get with a nav system. So I can definitely see why people would continue to use this.

As for police, there's only SO many places on the route I take where they can be, so when I see they've been spotted, I usually know exactly where they are. At least on the freeway, where the limit is 55 but traffic is doing 70 in the fast lane. I appreciate having the extra awarenes WAZE provides. On the side roads, I very rarely get over 5-10mph from the speed limit, and at 45 or lower, only at most 5mph. It's just not worth the worry, and those are the places where speed is more likely to kill, so best to stay safe.

There is only one google maps made by google. If you have an Android phone it comes with the phone. If you have an iPhone and do a search for google maps, its the first one that comes up. Says made by Google Inc.
There's only one google maps but there are lots of apps that use it for their maps.

Why not just get a double-din with Garmin installed later when you can get the new faceplate?!? Then you'll have more than what comes with the premium package NAV...

Why not use GPS level software that works on my phone that I can use in my car, my GF's car, rental, car pooling anywhere, anytime and downloaded maps so no data useage. Free app through Nokia (owner of Navteq) free global map downloads, turn by turn with street name directions through car Bluetooth.

pulling out a double-din system to use in my DF's car doesn't sound very convenient ;-)

Geo,

It was more or less to add an option to the discussion for not getting NAV...

I wanted the NAV, but didn't want leather seats... I currently use my Galaxy S4 for NAV...

I live in a fairly small city, Madison, WI. I have a Garmin. I use it about once every other month. $700 is not a lot for nav, but I just really don't need it. Same with auto cruise control. I go on the interstate maybe once a month. If I still lived in Chicago, these would be no brainer options, but they'd be a waste in Madison. As for trade in, your talking a difference of maybe a few hundred bucks five to ten years from now. Not enough to sway me.

Really, the value at trade-in isn't about getting more for the car. It won't really gain you anything in $$$. The difference is that it increases your target market and just makes it a little easier to sell. But again, for a car like the Mustang, that's probably not a huge deal either.

A car like a fusion or an Explorer I could see that being more relevant.

my current car has nav. during my last trip, i used my iphone's nav (i have a car mount) and it's way better than the in-dash nav, only because it is in sync with traffic and re-routes you on the fly (if you choose to do so).

i actually had both running simultaneously when I went on a trip to baltimore from long island, and the iphone, both on the way there and on the way back, had a better route (45 mins less).

i used to think that nav is a requirement for all my vehicles. now that we have better equipment (and most likely upgraded on a yearly basis, like i upgrade my iphones), i chose to skip nav for the first time.

Looks like from your signature you didn't get the Premium package, so an easy decision for you anyway :D I don't blame you though, and can't disagree with what you're saying either!

yep. i almost switched to the premium pack when someone told me that the cooled seats were worth the 4k alone, but it was still hard to justify the cost because it doesn't make the car perform any better.

my last car required me to go up to the highest trim level just to get HID. this mustang has everything i want on a base GT (HID, LED Fogs, backup cam, keyless start/entry)

nav didnt even come into consideration this time around.

I drive about 90% of my trip on highway roads, and I still would have zero want/need for auto cruise control, especially for around 1200 or whatever it is.

Also, for the topic, nav would be useless as I use my phone for that and it hasn't let me down yet.

I think the in-car nav will be connected to sirius traffic updates, not sure how good that is, but it should take traffic into account.

Although since people here suggested Waze, I've given it a try. I have to say, I really really like it. My in-car nav may not get much use. I just have to figure a good way to mount my phone now. Getting road alerts along with police sightings is definitely not going to be on the car's nav. It's also quite aggressive on finding the fastest way to work, and recalculates on the fly if I decide I don't really want to drive that path.

Man I wish I could get it to run on the car's big screen. C'mon guys, this is the future, lets make it happen already.

I'm planning on getting an Galaxy S5 to replace my 'aging' iPhone 5. Hope I don't regret the switch.
