Just for grins and giggles, try to step outside your own life experiences and preferences for a moment and imagine what driving and riding in a car was like before there were any seat belts. You really had to be there, but try anyway.

Like I keep saying, I'm not claiming that not buckling makes good sense for anything but the shortest drives (like 50 feet). Just that to bash people for what they grew up with isn't the right way to go about this.

Karma's a bitch . . . you may find yourself on the other side of the "doesn't always use the safety technology" coin some day about something that hasn't shown up yet (that you'll come up with your own reasons for not always using - or maybe even never using). Perhaps then you'll understand where OP is coming from.

Remember mom providing me with a bloody nose courtesy of a 1940 Ford dashboard, circa 1963/64. She hit the brakes hard while driving in downtown Seattle, luckily l was small and didn't launch into the windshield. Needless to say no seatbelt, car seat, or padded dash.
Would l still use them even if it was lawful not to, yes.

I hit a telephone pole head-on going about 60mph in my 95 Z28 when I was in high school. I was wearing my seatbelt and came out of that car with minor cuts and bruises. If not for that seatbelt, I don't feel like I would be here today! ALWAYS wear your seatbelt bro. I've seen my fair share of accidents where people weren't wearing them and they weren't so lucky.

I grew up pre safety belts. My father's head smashed into a windshield in 1968 because of no belt. He didn't make it. Modern belts are plenty comfortable and they keep you alive. Do what you like, but I can't come up with a logical reason to be stubborn over this.

I never buckle up, I relish the concept at any second of being thrown through my windshield, being decapitated and severed into little chucks, you know...because it's fun.
