Some would say no, but I would. The first few hundred miles produce the most particulates and contaminates.

It just depends what you want to do.

If it was new, I would wait till 3000 miles but this one is 2017 and pretty sure its been sitting for a while. thats the major concern that i have.

I agree. The time alone is reason enough but I’d do a change on a new engine anyway. When I did mine I found generous amounts of particulate matter in my drain pan at 150 miles, did another at 500 and still had crap in there. Didn’t get visible matter on the third change and felt good about that.

Do change it!

So, if the car has 950 miles on it and it's been out in the world since 2017, then an OLM of 41% means that the oil's been changed at least once already. The last change was probably about 7 or 8 months ago.

However, since you don't know anything about what's in it now, it's probably worth changing it just to get it on a baseline of the right oil and filter with 100% life.

Change it so you are starting ownership with a known oil condition instead of second guessing

2 jugs of Mobil1 and a filter.....so worth the peace of mind.

That would leave him with the wrong oil. But yeah, I’d just change it.

So there's no Mobil1 product that can be used in a GT350? It isn't a 10qt capacity?

Heh my mistake about the jugs. I forgot oil jugs are 5 quarts not 4, sorry. Mobile 1 does make 5W50, but I don't know of any that meet the Ford certifications. Usually we go with the Ford Motorcraft or Amsoil.

Correct.

marine oil jugs are 4qts. One year I was scratching my head for a few minutes why my boat was low on oil after I just changed it and checked the level...

It’s a 17, and the computer is programmed for time so that car has already had an oil change to be reading 41% left today. That said, maybe the guy before put in mobile 1 or something not to fords spec so I could see wanting to change a little earlier here.

fwiw, my r is mainly track duty. I changed the oil in late May. It currently has 18% life left. The computer is a function of time and engine use, it’s not just counting down 365 days.

Yep, if I were him, I'd change the oil.

It's complicated ;-)

First, Mobil doesn't make an oil that meets the spec for the car, so that's a problem. But they make good oil, so if you use their 5w50, the world won't end.

Second, the 5w50 Mobil oil is only available in 1 quart bottles, so you'd need 10 of them to fill the 10 quart capacity.

Third, it's also quite rare - it's not a Walmart product so you have to shop around to find it. When I use it, I get it from Napa, who don't normally stock it but the store can pull it from the warehouse in a day or two.

So, your recommendation itself was a good one - it's just that it's a bit more work than usual.
