Just got my base tune from lund and going to try to flash it today but ive seen before that its recommended to use a trickle charger for the battery so it doesn't die midway through flashing. Considering I have a premium with the sub-woofer and all those fancy interior lights will it be a problem if I just flash on the battery alone? Could I just turn off the radio while I flash? If not could I run jumper cables from my girls car so I dont have to buy a battery booster?

Side not im also installing the 47lb injectors prior to flashing and im guessing I should disconnect the battery first, install injectors, reconnect battery, flash, then crank the car?

I'm a little nervous about hearing you can grenade the computer if it dies mid flash but dont want to spend $100 on a battery booster for a one time use if its not necessary, so anyone that could give me a little clarity for this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yep, turn off everything electrical....HVAC, radio, lights, automatic wipers, etc. I usually drive around a bit first so the battery is charged but unless the car has been sitting for a period of time, you will be fine.

what would happen if the battery died mid tune?
You would likely get a notification on the flash unit that the tune failed and that you need to revert to the stock tune. I've had a revision tune fail to load the first time. Put on a tender, flashed back to stock, reflashed the revision and done. Worse comes to worse the PCM (ECU) is "bricked", you get into a dealer or shop that can reflash it and start all over again learning from your mistake.

MY experience loading tunes on the new PCM (ECU) compared to the 11-14 PCM (ECU) is that the flash time takes about 2-3x as long. I won't attempt a reflash without some form of tender connected on this platform personally. On my 14 I would pull the fuses on the HE fans at the track before making a tune mod and reflashing just as a precautionary. No way I would reflash with an SCT at the track on these S550 setups without a battery tender source connected. Just my 411.

I've flashed mine many, many times in the garage or on the road without issue. Premium here as well with the sub in the trunk.

Laptop in the vehicle with HPT dongle connected, takes a minute or so. No issues.

My experience is with an SCT X4 flash unit. I'm retuning with Lund using their Ngage device looking to make a compare. Never worked with HPT. Good to know.

ive flashed mine at least 8 times (tune revisions and me messing around) with a sct bdx and no battery tender. ive even done it after a cold night. i did turn off the radio and also had the door closed at all times during flashing. just gotta make sure that your battery has good juice.

5-10amps should be plenty assuming you have accessories and lights and such off
